Viewing Online Streaming Video (Webcasts)

Ohlone College offers online streaming video (referred to as webcasts) of Board of Trustees meetings, World Forum events, Ohlone Network Television broadcasts, some Renegades Athletics games, as well as other events.

These webcasts are produced by the Ohlone College Film and Television Department. If you have problems with the video feed, please contact Arnie Loleng, ONTV Operations Manager, at (510) 979-7968.

Requirements to View WMV Online Streaming Video Files

Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac

Your computer must have Windows Media Player (free) installed and enabled for your web browser.

Apple Mac only

Information about playing Windows Media Player files in the QuickTime Player is available on Microsoft's website. See also Tip for Mac Users.

Windows Media Player Plugin for Firefox

If you have Windows Media Player installed on your computer and embedded WMV files do not display correctly in Firefox, try installing the Windows Media Player plugin for Firefox (because even if you already have Windows Media Player installed, you may still be missing the plugin required to play back Windows Media audio and video embedded in web pages).

Live Event Links

There are 2 links for live streaming video webcasts. The appropriate link for each live webcast is posted on the related web page. However, errors do occur. If one link does not work, please try the other.

  2. powerlink.powerstream.net/003/02428/live1.asx

Accessibility of Live and Archived Video

Screenshot of President Gari Browning giving speech, with inset of ASL interpreter.

As of January 2010, speeches by the College President and some other live webcast events include a picture-in-picture feature showing Ohlone ASL interpreters.

Live video webcasts and their archived versions are not captioned and transcripts are not available.

Tip for Mac Users

The best viewing of streaming video on Macintosh computers:

  1. Download and install Windows Media Player for Mac
  2. Open Windows Media Player and go to "File"
  3. Under File, go to "Open URL"
  4. Copy and paste the video link into the "Open URL" window; for example:
    • The link for live broadcast Board of Trustees meetings is:
      powerlink.powerstream.net/003/02419/live1.asx
    • The link for live Ohlone Network Television Live Broadcast is:
      powerlink.powerstream.net/003/02428/live1.asx
    • The link for live Athletics events in the Epler Gymnasium is:
      powerlink.powerstream.net/003/02428/live1.asx
  5. The video will load and start streaming

These steps will make viewing the streaming video a better experience for Macintosh users.
