To Half or Half Not.
— Painting by Kenney Mencher.
ARTIST/EDUCATOR Kenney Mencher loves to hear what other people read into his paintings, which often capture humans in a moment of psychological or physical drama. Gallery 2611 is featuring Mencher's one-man show, "To Half or Half Not," through October.
The show's theme is a challenge to the viewer to wonder if "the cup is indeed half-full or half-empty." Mencher's paintings range from the comical to the controversial.
Since 1999 Mencher has been an associate professor of art and art history at Ohlone College in Fremont. His work has been seen in solo exhibitions and group shows in numerous California locations as well as nationally in New Mexico, Rhode Island, Texas and Ohio.
He earned his M.F.A. in painting at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. He also holds an M.A. in art history from UC Davis, and a B.A. from the City University of New York.
Mencher will be the guest at a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The exhibition schedule also includes a painting demonstration from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 13.
Gallery 2611 is at 2611 Broadway, Redwood City. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, or by appointment by calling 650-364-2611. Visit http://www.gallery2611.com.
