Advanced Phlebotomy for Practitioners in the Allied Health Program
Important Note
Phlebotomy will be placed on hiatus during the Fall 2009 semester (no classes). Please check with us in November for the Spring 2010 information.
Advanced phlebotomy practitioners fall into two categories:
- Practitioners currently working in a job titled Phlebotomist with 1040 hours of experience within the past 5 years, and
- Practicing phlebotomists with less than 1040 hours within the past 5 years.
Category (1) practitioners enroll in AH-118 Advanced Phlebotomy for Practitioners. Upon earning a grade of "C" or above are eligible to apply for the certification exam.
Category (2) practitioners must complete the AH-110 (as of Spring 2009) Medical Terminology prerequisite, and then enroll in AH-117A and AH-118. Upon earning a grade of "C" or above in each course are then eligible to apply for the certification exam.
Both options are approved by the Department of Health Services as a preparation for the certification exam.
See the Phlebotomy Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for more information. AH-110 (as of Spring 2009) is offered Fall and Spring semesters. Basic and Advanced Phlebotomy is offered Fall and Spring semesters - or check Ohlone College Schedule of Classes for exact dates and times.
