Biotechnology Summer Institute

Note: The Biotechnology Summer Institute will not be offered Summer 2009.

• Part 1 BIOT 116 Biotech Summer Institute (4 units)
  • Offered during the first 4 weeks of Summer Session
  • 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Thursday
  • Biotech Lab, Room NC-2418, Ohlone College Newark Center for Health Sciences and Technology

• Part 2 Biotech Institute Internship (2 units) - Pending availability, students who successfully complete BIOT 116 will be eligible for a short experience in a local biotechnology company 2 to 4 weeks following Part 1, Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Eligibility for the Biotechnology Summer Institute 2008

Students who will be seniors just graduated and who successfully completed Honors or AP Biology and Honors or AP Chemistry OR a high school Biotechnology Program.

Application to the Biotechnology Summer Institute

Interested students must email the following information directly to Dr. Mark Barnby, Biotechnology / Biology Professor (Division of Science, Technology, and Engineering):

1. Your Name, Phone Number, Address, High School, High School class (i.e., presently a Junior)
2. Name and email address of your science teacher or counselor who will recommend you for this program.
3. Statement of Interest—including a list of science and math courses you completed and a paragraph on why you want to be involved in this program.
4. Letter of support—ask your science teacher or counselor to email a statement that supports your application to participate in the Biotech Summer Institute. This letter must be email directly from the writer to the email address listed in item 5.

NOTE: BIOT 105 “Introduction to Cell & Molecular Biology” is offered during the summer for students who wish to start their prep in Biotechnology.
