Biotechnology Summer Institute 2008

  • Student working in the laboratory.Part 1 BIOT 116 Biotech Summer Institute (4 units)
    • June 23 to July 21
    • 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Thursday
    • Biotech Lab, Room NC-2418, Ohlone College Newark Center for Health Sciences and Technology
  • Part 2 Biotech Institute Internship (2 units) - Pending availability, students who successfully complete BIOT 116 will be eligible for a short experience in a local biotechnology company from July 23 to August 15, Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Eligibility

Students who will be seniors during the 2008-09 school year or just graduated in 2007 and who successfully completed Honors or AP Biology and Honors or AP Chemistry OR a high school Biotechnology Program.

Application

Interested students must email the following information directly to Dean Ron Quinta (Division of Science, Technology, and Engineering):

  1. Your Name, Phone Number, Address, High School, High School class (i.e., presently a Junior)
  2. Name and email address of your science teacher or counselor who will recommend you for this program.
  3. Statement of Interest—including a list of science and math courses you completed and a paragraph on why you want to be involved in this program.
  4. Letter of support—ask your science teacher or counselor to email a statement that supports your application to participate in the Biotech Summer Institute. This letter must be email directly from the writer to the email address below.
  5. Email the above to: rquinta@ohlone.edu

Applications are due: On or Before Monday, March 31, 2008.

NOTE: BIOT 105 “Introduction to Cell & Molecular Biology” is also offered this summer for students who wish to start their prep in Biotechnology.
