Notetaker Handbook - Interpreting Services, Center for Deaf Studies and Special Services
A Notetaker is a student peer who assumes the responsibility to take notes for a Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-blind, Blind-deaf, or Student with other disabilities.
Procedures for Notetakers
Notetaking paper is supplied by the Interpreting Services Office to the Notetaker on an as needed basis. Please only take a week or so worth of paper at a time so we can budget how much we need during the semester. The paper is special carbonless N.C.R. paper. Use only two sheets at a time because hand writing can go through several sheets (one copy for you and one copy for the student you are taking notes for). Each student's needs are different depending on their preferences and need for notes.
In general, please provide the student with a way to contact you if they have questions about the notes in between classes. Please date and number the pages. If there is material from the lecture that you already know but the student you are serving may not, please make sure to still take notes.
If you need to be absent from class or are unable to continue, please let the Interpreting Services Office know.
There are new procedures being developed and the web page will be updated to reflect this please check back later during the semester. If you have question, please let me know.
Thank you,
Ann Fuller, Interpreting Services Supervisor
