ELC Services

Self-paced English Courses

These classes are designed to help you improve your skills in vocabulary, learning techniques, spelling, reading, and/or reading speed. Working at your own pace and carefully following written directions, you will come to the ELC lab to complete your assignments over the course of the semester. Staff will be available to answer questions, sign off on completed work, and periodically check your progress.

Tutoring Services

  • Free English tutoring - students can sign-up at the ELC front desk for a weekly English tutoring appointment
  • Drop-In English Tutoring
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) conversation groups

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

SI sessions are regularly scheduled, out of class study sessions in which students compare notes, discuss readings and concepts, work on handouts, review lecture materials, develop learning and study skills. Learn more about SI.

Embedded Tutor (ET)

An Embedded Tutor (ET) is a tutor assigned to work with a specific class. ET sessions are regularly scheduled, out of class group tutoring sessions. In addition limited one-on-one tutoring is sometimes provided depending on student needs. The ET tutor works closely with the instructor and students, to provide tutoring and develop study skills.

Foreign Languages

  • To check-out tapes please go to the ELC front counter. You will need a student ID.
  • To sign-up for a foreign language tutor please visit the ELC, located in Hyman Hall, Room HH-217.

Equipment in the ELC

Computers

120 personal computers are available for lab work and research.

Printers & Copiers

A $1.00 bill is required to initially purchase a print card; $0.50 (50¢) pays for the card, leaving $0.50 (50¢) print credit.

Students may add value to the print card with a bill; the print card machine does not accept coins or credit cards. The ELC does not have a cash register or change machine.

Printed pages or copies are $0.10 cents (10¢) per page.
