Activity 3:
Computerized Databases
Use this hour to learn how to operate two (2) computerized databases which index articles in magazines, professional journals, and newspapers.
- You may access the research databases by using the internet. Go to the Ohlone College website at www.ohlone.edu
- Click on Library. Click on Search for Articles. This will take you to all of the on-line databases or type your subject in the Search box. This will list articles on the subject you typed. The databases will be listed on the left.
- When you are to type in the subject you want the computer to search, choose a subject related to your academic interest, such as child psychology, computer programming, accounting.
- Choose a database and bring up an article. On the Worksheet, rite the following information about the article you brought up in your database search.
- Name of database searched.
- Title of article.
- Author.
- Title of periodical.
- Date of publication.
- Page numbers of the article.
- Quickly SKIM the article.
- Write a brief statement (2-3 sentences) indicating what the article is about.
- Choose a different database than the one you used in #3 above. On the Worksheet, write the following information about the article you brought up in your database search.
- Name of database searched.
- Title of article.
- Author.
- Title of periodical.
- Date of publication.
- Page numbers of the article.
- Quickly SKIM the article.
- Write a brief statement (2-3 sentences) indicating what the article is about.
