Math Learning Center - Math Department

The Math Learning Center (MLC) provides tutoring and supplemental instruction programs for all of our math courses, ranging from Basic Mathematics to Calculus, Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. The MLC also provides limited peer and faculty tutoring for all of our physics and engineering courses - including the Trig-based and Calculus-based Physics - and in Engineering.

Math Learning Center Programs

Drop-In Tutoring

The MLC provides drop-in tutoring for all Ohlone math courses. Just log in on the Timekeeper computer (it takes less than 30 seconds), get out your work, raise your hand and a tutor will come and help you. You do not need to sign-up in advance or make an appointment. Our tutors are a combination of Ohlone students, Ohlone math instructors, and classified staff.

Math Homework Club

Are you tired of being stuck and not getting enough help to finish your homework in time? Do you need extra help to understand the concepts and improve your math study skills do well in your math classes? Check out the new Math Homework Club in the Math Learning Center.

Math Homework club is for students enrolled in Basic Math and Algebra courses A dedicated Math Learning Center staff will be there to help the students at certain specific times of the day. Learn more about Spring 2008 Homework Club Hours (PDF).

Learning Assistant Program / Supplemental Instruction (LAPSI)

LAPSI sessions are regularly scheduled, out of class study sessions in which students compare notes, discuss readings and concepts, work on handouts, review lecture materials, develop and develop learning and study skills and predict test items. Learn more about LAPSI.

Tutor Training Program: CRLA Level I & II Certificate

  • Learn methods to make your tutoring more effective!
  • Have fun sharing ideas with other tutors!

Get College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor certification which is accepted at hundreds of colleges to satisfy requirements for hiring or pay raises.

Equipment in the Math Learning Center

Computers

25 personal computers are available for lab work and research. Our computers are loaded with math software such as Maple, Matlab and Mathematica. There are also tutorial programs for some math courses.  Many courses have online learning resources and MLC staff can help you get started with these programs.

DVDs and Videos

Math related video lectures and tutorial materials are available to view in the Math Center.

Printers & Copiers

A $1.00 bill is required to initially purchase a print card; $0.50 (50¢) pays for the card, leaving $0.50 (50¢) print credit.

Students may add value to the print card with a bill; the print card machine does not accept coins or credit cards. The MLC does not have a cash register or change machine.

Printed pages or copies are $0.10 cents (10¢) per page.
