Math 188 Precalculus Coverage
Testbook: Mathematics for Calculus, 5th ed., Stewart, Redlin and Watson, Brooks/Cole, 2006, ISBN 0-4952-1386-1.
The emphasis in this course is on problem solving and ensuring the student have completely mastered the details of algebra and trigonometry.
Here are two guidelines for teaching the course:
- DO LOTS of word problems all semester (especially emphasize them in 1.6, 2.6, 9.2)
- Spend a lot of time on: Chapter 2, (especially 2.6) 3.1, 3.6, 4.1, 5.3, 5.4, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 (10.4 is optional if you run out of time, but try to cover it).
We ask that you make sure that every 188 student who gets a "C" or better, is prepared to succeed in Calculus.
