1. General Information about the Registered Nursing Program
The Nursing program is limited in the number of students it can admit each year. Clinical practice for students in general hospitals is an essential part of a Nursing program. We have developed a selection procedure which assists us to select qualified applicants from a broad range of backgrounds.
Students who successfully complete this program are eligible for the Associate in Science (AS) degree, and qualify to take the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN).
Students seeking admission with advanced standing to the second, third, or fourth semester should see Advanced Standing (LVN, Transfer) link for more information and an application.
Applicants seeking admission for Spring 2006 and beyond:
The nursing program will be instituting the Chancellor's Advisory on Use of Model Prerequisite for enrollment in Associate Degree Nursing Programs. The selection model includes four parts: Overall college GPA, College English GPA, Core Biology GPA (anatomy, physiology and microbiology) and core biology repetitions. Course repetitions will adversely affect your overall score. A withdrawl, D or F is counted as a repetition. This formula will compute your cut score. At this point of time, those who score above 75% will be entered into the pool. Of those eligible to enroll into the nursing program, a lottery will be used for selection purposes.
The background and advisory can be found in its entirety at Advisory on Use of “Model Prerequisites” for Enrollment in Associate Degree Nursing Programs (ADN).
