The Nursing Program is limited in the number of students it can admit to each class, Fall and Spring semesters. Students must fulfill certain minimum requirements to make application to the Registered Nursing Program.
SB 1309 states that all accepted nursing students must pass a math, English and science diagnostic assessment prior to enrollment into the nursing program.
Students who do not pass the diagnostic assessment must complete a remediation plan prior to enrollment into the nursing program.
Implementation of the diagnostic assessment is to be announced, possibly as early as Fall 2007.
Minimum Requirements to Make Application to the Registered Nursing Program
- All pre-nursing students regardless of previous course work are required to take the ACCUPLACER reading assessment.
- Clear English 101A (Ohlone College) to be determined by: completion of English 101A (Ohlone College) with a grade of "C" or better or completion of equivalent course.
- Clear English 163 (Ohlone College), to be determined by: ACCUPLACER reading assessment or completion of English 163 (Ohlone College) with a grade of "C" or better or completion of substitution course (see a counselor for list) with a grade of "C" or better.
- Completion of BIOL 103A and B or equivalent course with a grade of "C" or above.
- Math 151 (General Algebra) or equivalent course or Math 152/153 (Intermediate Albegra) placement on Ohlone Accuplacer assessment (waviers are not accepted).
ALL PREVIOUS COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE ON FILE IN RECORDS OFFICE BEFORE DEGREE APPLICATION WILL BE PROCESSED

Proof of current CPR Certificate for health care providers (American Heart Association) that will remain current during the two-year Nursing program.

Physical and mental health adequate to demands of practice of nursing.

Sign the Nursing Student Conduct Disclosure.

Undergo criminal background check/urine drug screen.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (for A.S. degree as a Registered Nurse):
- Natural Science (at least six units)
- Social Science
- Fine Arts/Humanities (at least 3 units)
- Oral Communication and Analytical Thinking
- English Composition (ENGL 101A or 4 semester unit equivalent)
- Communication and Analytical Thinking: (NUR 101, 102, 103, and 105 satisfies this requirement.
- Mathematics (complete MATH 151 unless minimum proficiency score is obtained on ACCUPLACER assessment test).
- Physical Education/Wellness
- Complete two semester activity courses (.5-1 unit each); OR
- Complete PE 251 Fitness for Life or AH 130 (3); OR
- Present academic record indicating completion of equivalent work.
- Cultural Diversity: College graduation requirement fulfilled through completion of nursing courses.
- Effective Fall 2007, Speech 101 or 103 prior to graduation
Note: "C" grade (2.0) required in each course in the major area and support to the major.
NO CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IS OFFERED IN THIS MAJOR.
