Bernadette VanDeusen, Associate Professor - Registered Nursing Department
Bernadette VanDeusen, MSN, RN, Associate Professor of Nursing has taught medical-surgical nursing at Ohlone College since 1991. She chairs the Department's Nursing Curriculum Committee. Ms. VanDeusen received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Duke University. Her clinical background includes medical-surgical and cardiac nursing, telemetry, infection control and patient education. Ms. VanDeusen maintains her Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification. She has coordinated several grants related to promoting student success in nursing education. Recent publications include a contribution to the Mentor Connection In Nursing, Vance and Olson (1998) Replacement Therapies for Fluids and Electrolyte Imbalances, a chapter in Prentice-Hall's Fluids, Electrolytes and Acid-Base Balance (2003), and Prentice Hall's Custom Case Studies (2008).
Ms. VanDeusen is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the National League for Nursing and Duke University School of Nursing Alumni Association. Her current interests include promoting critical thinking in nursing education, incorporating biochemical/nuclear emergency preparedness into the nursing curriculum, strengthening the laboratory analytical skills of nursing students and promoting successful rehabilitation in the client after major cardiovascular events.
