"How I Became a Nun and Disappointed Mother Teresa:
An Examination of Commitment Mechanisms by a Former Nun" - Psychology Club Speaker Series
The Ohlone College Psychology Club is proud to announce the latest installment in the Psychology Club Speaker Series.
At 19, Mary Johnson became a nun in the congregation founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Mary rose quickly in the ranks, sometimes traveling with Mother Teresa, and was assigned to prepare fellow nuns for their final vows.
Hear the riveting story of Mary’s dedication to the group and her courageous decision, twenty years after becoming a nun, to leave in search of a fuller life.
Johnson will read from her award-winning memoir, An Unquenchable Thirst, and will analyze the commitment mechanisms groups use to retain members and discuss why it's so hard to break free.
