Course Description

This course is 2 units overall, with 1.5 units of lecture and .5 units of lab. It is taught in a compressed semester of 12 weeks.

This course is a continuation of clinical procedures mastered in PTA 108, Advanced Modalities. This course is an introduction to the application of orthotic and prosthetic devices. Included in the course is a discussion and demonstration of the types of devices utilized in the treatment of disabled individuals, as well as procedures commonly used in the maintenance, donning, and removal of these devices. The student will learn how to instruct and prepare the patient to utilize this specialized equipment. Problem solving will be utilized in assisting students to apply standardized practices to meet individual patient needs.
