Ohlone College Faculty Member Recognized as an Exemplary Leader
Kay Harrison, Professor of Speech Communication and Coordinator of
International Education, has been awarded the International Exemplary
Leader award for her outstanding contributions to the students and staff
at Ohlone College for the past twenty-five years. She will be honored
at the Chair Academy's 13th Annual International conference in Reston,
Virginia on March 6, 2004.
In 1977, when she began teaching at Ohlone College in the Speech Communication Department, there were only two Speech courses.
Today, the department has grown to more than fourteen classes, seven Certificates of Accomplishment, a newly approved Transfer Associates Degree, and a nationally recognized forensics team all due to her exemplary leadership. In addition to her contributions to the Speech Communication Department, Professor Harrison has held a variety of leadership positions at Ohlone College. These include Faculty Chair of Strategic Planning, 1998-2000, Coordinator of International Education, 1991-present, and Coordinator of Staff Development, 2001-present.
