It's an exciting time at Ohlone as preparation is underway for the new Academic Core on the Fremont campus. The Academic Core will be a new core of academic buildings which will house most of the educational offerings on the Fremont campus at Ohlone.
As a result of the 2012 District Facilities Master Plan, it was identified that many of the existing buildings needed to be replaced, which will allow the Fremont campus to become more accessible to students as well as meeting current codes and energy efficiencies.
Academic programs that will be included in the new Academic Core buildings include Science, Arts, General Education, and Learning Resources (Tutoring, Library, study areas, etc.). The new Academic Core buildings will replace existing Buildings 1, 2, and 8 on the Fremont campus.
In preparation for the new Academic Core on the Fremont campus, portable classrooms will be used on the Newark campus (in Parking Lot A) starting Fall 2014 and on the Fremont campus (in Parking Lots B and C) starting
Portables for labs and offices on the Fremont campus will also be available starting Spring 2015.
How do I know if my class is located in a portable?
- Effective Fall 2014: All classes in portables on the Newark campus have NP (for "Newark Portable") as part of the room number. Example: Room NP-7.
- Effective Spring 2015: All classes in portables on the Fremont campus have FP (for "Fremont Portable") as part of the room number. Example: Room FP-5.
See the screenshot below of BIOL-105 sections that are located in portables at Fremont and Newark.
