How to Enroll - Admissions & Records

The Enrollment Process

For international students, see Admissions for International (F-1 Visa) Programs and Services.

Follow these steps to complete the Ohlone College Enrollment Process by computer or on paper:

Step 1
Apply.
  • Apply online or complete an Ohlone College paper application (available in the center of the printed Class Schedule or download and print the Application for Admission (PDF)) and submit the application to the Office of Admissions & Records on the Fremont campus or the Student Services Center on the Newark campus. The application should be submitted by Wednesday, November 23, 2011 to ensure earliest possible registration times for the Spring 2012 semester.
  • Submit any necessary documents (immigration and/or residency documents) to the Office of Admissions & Records on the Fremont campus or the Student Services Center on the Newark campus.
  • Receive a student ID number via email after submission of all application materials or by calling the Office of Admissions & Records at (510) 659-6100 if an email address is not available.
  • Set up a WebAdvisor account to register, add, drop, waitlist, and pay for classes online. Learn How to Access and Use WebAdvisor.

Ohlone College uses email to communicate with students. Please:

  • Provide an email address when applying and check your email regularly.
  • Submit email address changes via WebAdvisor.
  • Adjust mass mailing or spam filters to allow messages from Ohlone and ohlone.edu; all Ohlone email messages will be addressed with “Ohlone College” at the start of the sender address.

Step 2
Take Placement Tests (for ESL, English, and Math Prerequisites).

Step 3
Complete Orientation Course and Receive Counseling.

New Student Orientation is required of all new students except those who meet an Orientation exemption. Students must attend an orientation before they can register for classes.

  • Go to New Student Orientation Schedule to view a complete schedule of orientation dates.
  • During the Orientation the following will be covered:
    • Ohlone College resources and services
    • Study skills and other strategies for college success
    • Math and English placement results
    • One-on-one advising with an Ohlone College Counselor
    • Creation of an individual class schedule and registration for classes
    • Students rights and responsibilities
    • Requirements for associate degrees and/or transfer

Step 4
Register for Classes.

Each student is classified by a specific student type which determines Registration Priority. They are as follows in order of priority:

  • While you are waiting for your Registration period to open, you should be proactive and review the Spring 2012 course listings online via WebAdvisor in “real time”. A static paper version of the Class Schedule is also available.
  • When viewing course offerings ahead of time online, you can determine which classes are open and pre-select those you want and save them as your “Preferred Sections” for Spring 2012. This will save you time and effort when you are ready to register online at your appointment time.
  •  For instructions on how to create and use Preferred Section lists, please login to WebAdvisor, select the “Register for Sections” button under the Registration section. Next, select the “Search and Register for sections” button. Then chose the HELP button at the top of the screen and scroll down until you see the instructions for Preferred Sections.
  • Make sure that all holds are cleared and any outstanding balances paid before registering.
  • Register for classes online via WebAdvisor. See How to Register for Classes Using WebAdvisor.
  • Or, if a class is filled:
    • Add to the waitlist and attend the first class session.
    • Check Online Education for information and instructions about online classes. Students may contact Online Education at ecampus@ohlone.edu for assistance with online classes or Blackboard.

Step 5
Pay for Classes - Payment due upon registration.
  • Payment must be received within five (5) calendar days of registration or students will be dropped for non-payment. Go to Fees for further information.
  • Pay online by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover using WebAdvisor.
  • Pay by check by using the Drop Box in the first floor lobby of Building 1 on the Fremont campus or the Drop Box located outside of the Cashier's Office in Building 1, second floor on the Fremont campus.
  • Pay by cash, check, or credit card at the Cashier's Office in Building 1, second floor on the Fremont campus. Limited Cashier's Office Window hours are available.

Step 6
Prepare for Classes,
  • Print a copy of your class schedule from WebAdvisor to confirm registration and check for errors.

Then

  • Purchase books online on the Ohlone College Bookstore website or visit the Ohlone College Bookstore on the Fremont campus (Building 5, first floor).

Attend Classes.
Once you have completed each of the steps above, the Enrollment Process has been successfully completed! Attend classes! Thank you for choosing Ohlone College.
