The Annual Ohlone College Juried Student Awards Exhibition will be held at the Louie-Meager Museum of Art, located in the Smith Center.
Student work in all mediums will be on display. A reception for the artists will be held on Wednesday, April 22 from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Awards for the best work in nine mediums will be presented at the reception.
Jurors for the 2015 Annual Juried Student Awards Exhibition
The work will be selected by jurors Kevin B. Chen and Barbara Homes.
Kevin B. Chen has been involved in the San Francisco Bay Area arts community for over two decades as a curator, writer, and visual artist. He was the Program Director of Visual Arts at Intersection for the Arts for over 15 years, where he curated over 60 exhibitions and hundreds of public programs, including solo exhibitions by Lebbeus Woods, Hasan Elahi, Margaret Harrison, Taraneh Hemami, Conrad Atkinson, Ala Ebtekar, Jamex & Einar de la Torre, Claudia Bernardi, Binh Danh, Weston Teruya & Michele Carlson, Victor Cartagena, and Marcos Ramírez ERRE. He has also curated projects for Headlands Center for the Arts, de Young Museum, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries, California Shakespeare Theater, San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music, and Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco & Kearny Street Workshop. His curatorial work has been reviewed in publications nationally, including Art in America, afterimage: the journal of media arts and cultural criticism, Sculpture Magazine, Art Papers, New Art Examiner, Art Nexus, Bidoun Magazine, Contemporary Magazine, Bitch Magazine, and the Huffington Post.
Barbara Holmes received her MFA from San Diego State University in 2002 and her BFA from Brigham Young University in 1993. Her work has been included in group exhibitions locally at Headlands Center for the Arts, Museum of Craft and Design, Museum of Craft and Folk Art, SFO Museum, Catharine Clark Gallery, and in group exhibitions nationally at the Fuller Craft Museum ( Brockton, MA), Oceanside Museum of Art (Oceanside,CA), Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan, WI), and Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (Santa Ana, CA). She has been awarded Artist Residencies at Anderson Ranch Arts Center (Snowmass Village, CO), Recology San Francisco, and The Capital City Arts Initiative (Virginia City, NV), the Analog Research Lab at Facebook, and has work in the permanent collection at SFMOMA and Facebook Menlo Park Campus. She also has extensive teaching experience, having taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, San Diego State University, Southwestern College, Mira Costa College, and is currently an Associate Professor at California College of the Arts. Much of her practice has focused on the reclamation and creative reuse of discarded materials.
