106A drawing students in Margaret Stainer's classes made oil pastel images after Vietnamese artists in tandem with the theater department's summer production of Miss Saigon. The summer students also are exhibiting oil pastels after Van Gogh in which they learned the wild glories of color in his manner.
Karen Luk: Beneath the Surface

Karen Luk is an illustrator who paints with chalk pastels and watercolors. Her diverse work encompasses subjects ranging from Adam and Eve to social commentary to comics. She is a graduate of the California College of Art and an Ohlone College alumna. Her portfolio is online at: www.karenluk.net.

Dias De Los Muertos

In cooperation with Ohlone's theater department, an exhibit guest-curated by the theater show producer of Much Ado About Nothing, Tom Blank, will occur.

The Archives Project Committee, supported by president Treadway for two years in a labor of love, have collected documents and photographs of the historical growth of the Ohlone campus and programs. There will be a special showing for Ohlone faculty and staff at noon, January 24, accompanied by Bob Bradshaw's bi-annual BBQ, in this case, held in the LAM Plaza. We hope everyone will come.

Grief Work. Art Heals.

Personal expression occurs in all walks of life. Both nonartists and professional artists are showing their artworks made while mourning a lost loved one. Dr. Sarah Katz, Director of the Hospice Programs at Kaiser, has created a series of no-cost "grief art workshops" with volunteer professional artist and Ohlone Fine Art faculty member, Lisa Levine, leading the sessions. The deeply expressive and magical qualities of art help us find new images and renew memories in meaningful, stress reducing, healing ways. The panel will include Dr Sarah Katz, Lisa Levine, and some participants in the show.

Eleanor Dickinson, Professor, Emeritus, California College of Art, well known nationally and world-wide, will be showing some of her fabulous pastels on black velvet, figure drawings and some of her very personal and seldom shown "dream drawings".
Ms Dickinson will present an advanced only Figure Drawing Workshop on Wednesday, March 19 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm in Room 4311, Art Building 4 - bring your own drawing supplies. Sign up at least 3 weeks in advance with Margaret Stainer, Gallery Director. $5.00 donation to gallery. Limited seating.
High School Theater Arts Festival Art Show

Statewide high schools compete in the annual Ohlone College Theater Festival while a juried High School art show will occur in the gallery.
Ching Ming
In honor of the Chinese ancient custom of remembering their ancestral dead on April 5, the gallery will show authentic Ching Ming artifacts.
Annual Fine Art & Design Student Show

The art department's highlight event of the year is the annual student competition juried by the fine art & design faculty. This year changes are being made, the adjunct faculty will be part of the jury while the number of selected pieces will be more restrained than the 245 pieces last year. However, the art will be as wonderful as it always is and will include: drawing, collage, painting, ceramics and glass arts, sculpture, graphics, computer works, interior design and photography. Over 40 awards and more than $4000. in prizes are donated by local venues and the ASOC (Associated Student Body of Ohlone College).
