Former Renegade Pitcher - Gardner Taken on Day 1 of the 2009 MLB Draft

June 9, 2009, Cleveland, OH - Former 2008 Renegade Pitcher Joe Gardner was selected as the #94 pick over all in the 3rd Round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Gardner, who pitched this season as a junior at University of California Santa Barbara, pitched for the Ohlone Renegades in 2007 and 2008. Gardner is a graduate of local Milpitas High School for Head Coach Chuy Zamudio. Gardner was an All-Conference pitcher for Ohlone.

Zach Johnson named California Athlete of the Month - Honorable Mention: May

June 9, 2009, Sacramento, CA - Zach Johnson from Ohlone College Baseball was named the California Community College Athlete of the Month - Honorable Mention for the month of May. Zach helped lead Ohlone to a Conference Championship and a Regional Championship over Chabot College. He was also named 1st Team All Coast Conference as an infielder. Ian Hoff named to the ALL-Northern CA 1st –Team

May 26, 2009, Fresno, CA - The California Community College baseball coaches had their annual all-state meeting this past weekend in Fresno. The coaches voted and recognized many deserving athletes for All-Northern and Southern California teams, and for All-American accolades. Ohlone Colleges Jeff Johnson was voted selected to the All-American Team as a designated hitter. Read more Jeff Johnson named 2009 All-American (PDF).

Renegades End Season at Home

Ohlone finishes with the best single season record of all-time 37-11!

May 19, 2009, Fremont, CA - The Ohlone College baseball team was eliminated from the California Community College Super-Regional playoff’s this past weekend. Ohlone dropped an opening round extra inning affair to San Jose City College 5-4 in 10 innings on Friday. They then dropped a very close game to Consumnes River College 7-5 on Saturday.

“It is a tough way for these kids to end their season”, said Head baseball Coach Jordon Twohig. “We really pitched well enough to win these games, but hats off to City and Consumnes as they did what they needed to do to win those games.”

Despite the weekend games the Renegades have a lot to be proud of this year. Ohlone finishes with the best single season record in schools history 37-11. Hosting this weekend’s Super-Regional tournament also marked another 1st in the programs 39 year history. The Renegades captured a pair of championships this season. They earned a Regional Championship over rival school Chabot on May 9th, and also captured their 1st outright Coast Conference Championship in 18 years. Read more Renegades End Season at Home (PDF).
