2015 Coach Biography: Billy Clontz, Assistant Coach - Ohlone College Renegades Men's Baseball

Billy Clontz enters his second season as an assistant coach at Ohlone College after spending several years in Oregon at one of the top junior colleges in the Northwest.  He returns to his role as the hitting/infield coach after leading the defense to a #1 state ranking during the 2014 season.

Coach Clontz spent his entire childhood in Oregon, played there, and even coached there.  The native of Corvallis starred at Corvallis High School and then moved on to play at Mt. Hood Community College (2006-08).  From there, he moved on to NCAA Division II Western Oregon where he helped lead the Wolves to 34-14 (2009) and 34-15 (2010) seasons.  His best season came in 2009 as a junior when he hit .357 (41-115) in 33 games while rapping out 8 doubles and 3 homeruns.

After his time at Western Oregon, Coach Clontz returned to Mt. Hood and immediately began coaching, where he assisted with hitters and infielders during the 2010, ‘11, and ’12 seasons.  Mt. Hood is a nationally renowned program that has won 20 conference championships since 1971, including 16 of the last 22.

Clontz has also been extremely busy on the summer circuit where he coached three summers for the Corvallis Knights (2010, ’11, ’13), who played their home games at Oregon State University and a summer with the Klamath Falls Gems (2012).  While coaching with the Knights, he helped lead them to West Coast League Championships in both 2011 and ‘13.   He will return next summer to the northwest for a sixth year after he was hired by the Kelowna Falcons to be their head coach for the summer of 2014.  The Falcons, like the Knights, play in the NCAA-affiliated West Coast League.

Clontz currently resides in San Jose.
