2016 Coach Biography: Chris Perry, Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator - Ohlone College Renegades Men's Baseball
Chris Perry enters his third year as the Renegades pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He joined Coach Curran’s staff in August 2013. He came to Ohlone after serving as the head coach at Leigh High School in San Jose for six seasons.
His 2015 pitching staff improved upon their previous accomplishments by finishing the season ranked ninth in the state with a 2.78 ERA. In two years, he has tallied eight pitchers who have earned All-Conference. The Renegade pitching staff garnered three All-Conference selections in 2015 (Josh Calmerin, Elias Bedolla, Jaramy Jacobs). In Perry's first season as Ohlone’s pitching coach in 2014, the Renegades lowered their team earned-run average by a full run (2.83) while placing five pitchers on the Coast Conference All-League team.
Over the past ten years, he has coached at the college, high school and club level. While at Leigh HS, he guided the Longhorns to a league championship in 2011, five Central Coast Section playoff berths, including one trip to the final four (2008) and two 20-win plus seasons (2008, 2011). Coach Perry saw 25 players move on to the collegiate level and also had 25 players earn all-league recognition for their performance on the field.
Prior to Leigh, Coach Perry lived in Fresno, CA, where he was an assistant coach under Coach Curran at Washington Union High School. He was also an assistant for Coach Curran on the California Blaze Baseball Club and was a baseball instructor/camp coordinator at Fresno World of Baseball. He also served this past summer as a head coach for one of the 16u NorCal teams out of Pleasanton.
As a player, Coach Perry pitched for Yuba Community College in Marysville, CA after graduating from Lindhurst High School in 1999. After red-shirting his first year as a college player, he went on to record an 11-4 record as a starting pitcher in two years, which resulted in him earning all-league recognition his sophomore year and a scholarship to play at New Mexico Highlands University.
Coach Perry would later earn his Bachelor's degree in 2006 in Kinesiology at California State University, Fresno. He also holds a Master's degree in Recreation and Sport Sciences with an emphasis in Coaching Education through Ohio University (2012).
Along with his coaching duties at Leigh HS, he also spent four years as the Athletic Director. He currently is in his eighth year as a Physical Education teacher at Leigh.
Coach Perry resides in San Jose with his wife, Marisa, and their son Jacob (3).
