June 9, 2009, Baton Rouge, LA - Former Ohlone College Shortstop Derek Helenihi transferred to LSU in 2007. Derek played 2 years at Ohlone College in 2006 and 2007. Read more Derek Helenihi Helps Lead the LSU Tigers to the 2009 National Championship (PDF).
June 9, 2009, Cleveland, OH - Former 2008 Renegade Pitcher Joe Gardner was selected as the #94 pick over all in the 3rd Round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Gardner, who pitched this season as a junior at University of California Santa Barbara, pitched for the Ohlone Renegades in 2007 and 2008. Gardner is a graduate of local Milpitas High School for Head Coach Chuy Zamudio. Gardner was an All-Conference pitcher for Ohlone.
June 9, 2009, Sacramento, CA - Zach Johnson from Ohlone College Baseball was named the California Community College Athlete of the Month - Honorable Mention for the month of May. Zach helped lead Ohlone to a Conference Championship and a Regional Championship over Chabot College. He was also named 1st Team All Coast Conference as an infielder. Ian Hoff named to the ALL-Northern CA 1st –Team
May 26, 2009, Fresno, CA - The California Community College baseball coaches had their annual all-state meeting this past weekend in Fresno. The coaches voted and recognized many deserving athletes for All-Northern and Southern California teams, and for All-American accolades. Renegades End Season at Home
Ohlone finishes with the best single season record of all-time 37-11!
May 19, 2009, Fremont, CA - The Ohlone College baseball team was eliminated from the California Community College Super-Regional playoff’s this past weekend. Ohlone dropped an opening round extra inning affair to San Jose City College 5-4 in 10 innings on Friday. They then dropped a very close game to Consumnes River College 7-5 on Saturday.
“It is a tough way for these kids to end their season”, said Head baseball Coach Jordon Twohig.
“We really pitched well enough to win these games, but hats off to City and Consumnes as they did what they needed to do to win those games.”
Despite the weekend games the Renegades have a lot to be proud of this year. Ohlone finishes with the best single season record in schools history 37-11. Hosting this weekend’s Super-Regional tournament also marked another 1st in the programs 39 year history. The Renegades captured a pair of championships this season. They earned a Regional Championship over rival school Chabot on May 9th, and also captured their 1st outright Coast Conference Championship in 18 years. Read more Renegades End Season at Home (PDF).
#1 is done: Ohlone eliminated from playoffs
May 20, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Ranked third in the nation, first in California, and winning 35 games in the regular season will have to be enough for the 2009 Ohlone baseball team since there will be no trip to the State Tournament, May 23-25 in Fresno, for the Renegades. After sweeping the best-of-three series against rival Chabot College in the regional playoffs two weeks ago, the Ohlone College baseball team seemed well on their way towards the State Tournament. No. 1 seed Ohlone drops game to San Jose CC
May 16, 2009, Contra Costa Times - It took an extra inning of baseball to complete Friday's first game of Ohlone College's California Community College Athletic Association Super Regional game against San Jose City College. San Jose edged Ohlone 5-4 with a home run in the top of the 10th inning to push the nationally ranked Renegades into the losers' bracket. Read more Ohlone drops game to San Jose.

This weekend was a great turnout as we had huge crowds for both days. I hope you will get a chance to come out and support these young men as we battle this weekend for the right to go to the Final Four - State Championship.

Ohlone College Renegades to host the Northern California Super-Regional Baseball Championships
Press release, May 14, 2009 - The Ohlone College Renegades (37-9) will host this year’s Northern California Super-Regional Championships. The Renegades earned the #1 seed in the Northern California Playoffs by finishing the regular season 35-9 overall and 20-5 in conference. The Renegades won their first outright Coast Conference-Pacific Division Championship in 18 years, and were ranked #1 in Northern California for seven straight weeks during the season. The Renegades also received National recognition in 2009—PERFECT GAME Baseball had Ohlone ranked as high as #4 in the country and currently ranks the Renegades #6. Ohlone Baseball Ranked #3 in the Country
May 13, 2009, Cedar Rapids, IA - The latest national poll was just released by PERFECT GAME baseball - and Ohlone College (37-9) has been ranked #3 in the country. The ranking is the highest in the program's history. The #1 team in the polls is Howard College, TX (58-1), followed by #2 San Jacinto College, TX (43-9). View poll (PDF).
Ohlone wins Regional Championship Over Chabot!
May 11, 2009 - Ohlone Baseball won the 2009 Regional Championship this past weekend over rival Chabot College in back to back games! With the wins Ohlone improves their overall record to 37-9. The Renegades win their first Regional Championship since Paul Moore’s squad won it back in 2004.

Jeff Johnson named California Athlete of the Month-Honorable Mention
May 11, 2009 - Ohlone Baseball freshman Jeff Johnson was named California "Athlete of the Month"-Honorable Mention for the month April. Johnson currently has 19 HR and 65 RBI for the Renegades who are currently 37-9. Johnson was also recently named to the 1st Team All-Coast Conference. May 8, 2009 - The #1 ranked Ohlone Renegades-(36-9, 1-0) defeated the visiting #16 Chabot Gladiators, in the first day of the Fremont Regional playoff, by a score of 9-2. Sophomore David Luna pitched a very solid 8 innings, allowing only 3 hits, 2 runs, and struck out 8 Chabot batters to earn his 9th win of the year. May 8, 2009, Tri-City Voice Sports - After winning the Coast Conference outright for the first time since 1991, ranked number four in the nation, number two in the state and number one in the Northern California Regional Tournament, the Ohlone Renegades baseball team did not disappoint in their first playoff game in front of their home crowd, as they defeated the Chabot Gladiators handily, 9-2. Ohlone Baseball plays in Round 1 of Regional Playoffs
#1 Ohlone College (35-9) will host #16 Chabot College (26-16) in the Regional play-off’s this weekend, May 8-9, at Ohlone College.
As a team and a coaching staff we are excited to get a quality opponent in the 1st round of the play-offs, and I can tell you that the atmosphere around the ball field with these 2 teams will be outstanding this weekend! This is the best of 3 series. In the team’s only meeting this season in Hayward, the Renegades defeated the Gladiators by a score of 8-5.
Game time are:
- Game 1: Friday, May 8 at 2:00pm
- Game 2: Saturday, May 9 at 11:00am
- Game 3 (if needed): Saturday, May 9 at 3:00pm

May 7, 2009, Contra Costa Times - … It was there that Rios arranged a meeting among first-year Ohlone College baseball coach Jordon Twohig and the Johnsons. "I talked to Fernando, and he said he had these kids that he had been working with and that their swings were looking good," Twohig said. "So I went out to Castro Valley and watched them swing in his back yard. Our recruiting was already done, but we decided to let Jeff and Zach come out in the fall and start working out with us." May 5, 2009 - The Coast Conference Pacific Division had there All Conference meetings last evening at Mission College. The night belonged to Ohlone College as 13 members of 2009 Renegades team were selected to The All-Conference Team, and 4 members were recognized as All-Conference Honorable Mention. Renegades draw the #1 Seed in Northern California State Play-Off’s
May 4, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegade baseball team found out on Sunday that it received the #1 seed in the Northern California regional playoffs and will host the winner of Tuesday’s play-in games between #15 San Jose City vs. #18 Marin, and #16 Chabot vs. #17 Shasta. Renegade Family and Friends: I wanted to take a few minutes this afternoon to thank everyone for their continued support of our baseball program. On Thursday, April 30, our boys completed off the regular season in dramatic fashion as they defeated Skyline College at home by the score of 4-1. Ohlone College Baseball Ranked # 6 In the Nation!
May 4, 2009 - Cedar Rapids, IA - The New National Rankings by Perfect Game Baseball were just released today and Ohlone Baseball (35-9) was ranked 6th, and has remained in the Top 10 for the last 7 weeks in row. Ohlone knocks off Skyline 4-1 to win title
April 30, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegades (35-9, 20-5) knocked off the Skyline Trojans 4-1 on Thursday. With the win, Ohlone received the title of Coast Pacific Conference Champions. The title is the first since 1991. Sophomore Ian Hoff (8-2) earned the victory for the Renegades by pitching 4 2/3 innings in relief. Freshman Sean Martin started the contest and pitched very well. Sean’s line for the afternoon was 4 1/3 innings pitched, allowed 6 hits, 1 earned run, and struck out 3 Trojan batters. Ian Hoff (7-2) took the loss for Ohlone by pitching 4 innings, giving up 4 runs on 10 hits, and striking out 2 West Valley batters. April 25, 2009 - On a sun drenched day in the garlic capital of the world, the Ohlone Renegades (34-8, 19-4) swept the season series from the host Gavilan Rams by a score of 18-6. Sophomore David Luna earned 8th victory of the season. Luna pitched 5 innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, and struck out 4 batters. The Renegades received solid relief from 3 different pitchers. Kevin Radach and Jon Sa combined to pitch 2 innings of scoreless baseball with both striking out a batter each. April 21, 2009 - On a day that saw the temperature rise to the mid 90’s, Roberto Padilla turned in his best outing as an Ohlone Renegade. Roberto earned his 4th win of the year in a very impressive fashion. He threw a complete game, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, and struck out 5 batters. April 22, 2009, Tri-City Voice - With the junior college baseball season winding down, teams are jockeying for playoff position: Ohlone (30-6 going into last week's play) has all but stamped their ticket into tournament play, atop the Coast Conference Pacific Division; meanwhile, Chabot has started to pick up their play, sitting in second place in the Coast Conference Golden Gate Division. April 18, 2009, Inside Bay Area - Why is the Ohlone College baseball team so good this season? It's not just the pitching or the hitting or the defense. It's the whole package. "I think it's a little bit of everything," said Ohlone sophomore pitcher David Luna, a transfer from West Valley College. "The team is so deep: power hitting, execution hitting, everybody knows their role. "Guys that hit singles don't try to hit home runs, and we've got speed on our team. Our pitching has a low ERA. April 16, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegades (31-7, 16-3) took down the Cabrillo Seahawks by a score of 10-2. With the win, Ohlone wins the season series against the Seahawks 2-1. Freshman Sean Martin (8-0) snagged his 8th win of the season by pitching 7 2/3 innings, scattering 7 hits, allowing 2 runs, and striking out 5 Cabrillo hitters. April 14, 2009 - On a blustery day in San Mateo, the Ohlone Renegades (30-7, 15-3) lost in a pitchers duel to College of San Mateo 4-3. Starting on the mound for the Renegades was freshmen Roberto Padilla. Padilla pitched 6 innings, scattering 6 hits, 2 earned runs, and striking out 7 Bulldog batters. Alex Oberle pitched 2 innings in relief, giving up 1 run on 2 hits. Oberle came into the game in the 7th inning with 2 runners on with 0 outs and proceeded to get a fly ball to left and a double play to end the Bulldog threat. April 9, 2009 - Fremont, CA - The Ohlone Renegades (30-6 Overall & 15-2 Conference) won their 30th game of the season on Wednesday against Consumnes River off the BIG 8 Conference. Ian Hoff secured the win for the Renegades pitching 5 innings giving up 0 runs.

April 6, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegades (29-5, 16-2) defeated the Mission College Saints by a score of 9-1 on Monday. Sophomore Cory Krisman earned his 3rd win of the season. March 30, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegades (26-5, 13-2) defeated the visiting De Anza Dons on Tuesday by a score of 18-6. Sophomore David Luna earned his 6th win of the season by pitching 5 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 earned run, and struck out 6 De Anza hitters. Jon Fragulia threw 2 shut out innings in relief. Fragulia gave up 0 hits and struck out 1. Jon Sa and Daniel Buffington combined for 2 innings of relief. The duo gave up only 2 hits and struck out 2 De Anza batters. Roberto Padilla earned his 3rd win of the season by pitching 8 solid innings, giving up only 4 hits, 2 runs, and struck out 8 Colts batters. March 26, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegades (24-5, 11-2) defeated the host Skyline Trojans on Thursday by a score of 10-3. Freshmen Sean Martin earned his 6th win of the season and Ryan Kanzaki smacked to 2 home runs on the day. Martin pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, and struck out 8 Trojan batters. March 25, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Ohlone baseball hasn't gone through many struggles throughout its 2009 campaign on the diamond. However, going into last week's play, they were in a bit of a rut, losing two (March 7 to Cabrillo; March 10 to Skyline) and winning two (March 12 to Chabot; March 14 to Monterey Peninsula) just after reeling off 11 wins in a row. Roberto Padilla earned his 2nd win of the year in dominating fashion. Roberto pitched for 7 innings giving up only 2 hits, 0 runs, and striking out 6 Ram hitters. March 21, 2009, Contra Costa Times - The Ohlone College Baseball team is No. 1 ranked in Northern California for the first time this late in the season, and the men on the mound have shown the way. The Renegades, who were 21-5 overall and 8-2 in the Coast Conference Pacific Division heading into Saturday's game against City College of San Francisco, boast five solid sophomore pitchers and clutch hitters galore. Sophomore Ian Hoff received his 5th win of the year in relief by pitching 2 1/3 innings, giving up 0 hits, 0 runs, and striking out 4 Monterey hitters. March 17, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegades defeated the Hartnell Panthers by a score of 14-4 on Tuesday. Sophomore David Luna earned his 4th win of the 2009 season by going 5 2/3 innings, giving up 7 hits, 4 runs, and struck out 4 Panther hitters. Sophomore Alex Oberle pitched 1 2/3 innings, gave up only 1 hit, and struck out 4 batters. Freshman Jon Sa finished the day on the mound for the Renegades throwing a scoreless 9th inning. March 14, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegades (19-5, 6-2) defeated the Monterey Peninsula College Lobos on Saturday by a score of 3-2 in 11 innings. March 10, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegades dropped their first home game of the season today to Skyline College by a score of 8-3. The Renegades had previously won their first 10 games at The Reservation. David Luna received his first loss of the year, (3-1). Luna pitched extremely well on the day but defensive mishaps behind him escalated his pitch count quickly. March 7, 2009 - The Ohlone Renegades (17-4, 4-1) found themselves on the short end of a pitchers duel as they lost to the Cabrillo Seahawks 3-1 on Saturday. Roberto Padilla received the tough loss as he pitched well enough to win. Roberto threw 71/3 innings, gave up only 3 earned runs and struck out 5 Seahawks batters. “It was great to see Roberto give us that kind of a quality start”, said Head Coach Jordon Twohig. “He was very good today”. February 12, 2009 - California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) - Freshman outfielder Steven Ramos (Tracy) has exploded to start the season. He bats leadoff for the Renegade baseball team and has been putting up some very good numbers.
In seventeen at bats he is batting .529 with nine hits. Ramos has three doubles, one home run, eight stolen bases, and three runs batted in. He has an on-base-percentage of .556%, and he is slugging an astonishing .882%. Ramos has thrown out two runners at home plate from the outfield.
“Ramos works hard on the field, proving himself in the leadoff spot through the short season thus far. His routine in the classroom is a demonstration of his personality and abilities. After a great high school career at Tracy, Ramos was looking for an opportunity and he sought us out. After being actively recruited by other area teams, he chose the Renegades, and we are pleased to have him with us. His speed on the base paths is creating opportunities for our offense which is a big plus,” said Ohlone’s head baseball coach, Jordan Twohig.

February 3, 2009 - Fremont, CA—The Renegades baseball team defeated San Mateo College by the score of 17-11 Tuesday at Ohlone College. The Renegades had 17 hits on the afternoon, and also received good pitching performances from starter Roberto Padilla, and relievers Kevin Radach, and Alex Oberle.
February 2, 2009 - Fremont, CA - It was announced last week that sophomore player David Luna was named to the California Community College Pre-Season All American List. David a starting pitcher and designated hitter for the Renegades was named 1st Team All-Coast Conference as a freshman batting .317 with 7 HR. He also was 4-1 on the mound for Ohlone last spring. This past fall David signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I baseball for San Jose State, in 2010.
January 31, 2009 - Merced, CA - Freshman Sean Martin earned his 1st collegiate victory for Ohlone College defeating Shasta College in the final game of the Merced tournament by a score of 7-0. Martin along with relievers Jon Sa, and Jon Fragulia combined for the shutout, striking out 10 Shasta batters in the win. Freshman Steven Ramos went 3-4 with a HR, 2B, and 2 stolen bases for the Renegades.

August 21, 2008 - Ohlone College has just announced that sophomore graduate Matt Langseth has been voted the 2008 Ohlone College “Male Athlete of the Year”. Langseth, a standout 2nd baseman on the baseball team the last 2 seasons will be attending Cornell University of the Ivy League this fall. Ohlone Announces Jordon Twohig as Interim Head Baseball Coach
August 18, 2008 - Ohlone College baseball head Coach Tom Kunis resigned last week in order to accept another job at a Division I baseball program in the Bay Area. “Associate head coach Jordon Twohig will be stepping in as the interim head coach until we can move forward with a national search.” Athletics Director Chris Warden announced after the official letter from Kunis was received.
