FREMONT, CA - Ohlone College baseball head Coach Tom Kunis resigned last week in order to accept another job at a Division I baseball program in the Bay Area. “Associate head coach Jordon Twohig will be stepping in as the interim head coach until we can move forward with a national search.” Athletics Director Chris Warden announced after the official letter from Kunis was received.

Twohig, Ohlone’s associate head coach and recruiting coordinator this past season, has been instrumental in helping bring Ohlone baseball back into the mix as a California state contender. Twohig coached an offensive group in 2008 that was among the best in the Coast Conference-South; Ohlone hit .298 as a team, which was tied for 3rd in the conference, and up from .285 in 2007. The Renegades also made huge improvements in every offensive category under Twohig’s guidance.

I am very excited to step into the Interim role as head baseball coach," Twohig said. "It has been a true honor to work for coach Kunis, and Chris Warden-AD this past year. I felt strongly that in coming here that we could do some great things at Ohlone, and that Chris Warden would support the program however necessary to make it successful. I look forward to getting back to work at cementing Ohlone’s position among the elite programs in the State, and I will work tirelessly to provide a great collegiate experience for our players and those who come to watch us play."

A current major league scout with the Atlanta Braves, and formally with the Pittsburg Pirates, Twohig will be taking his 1st collegiate head coaching job, with assistant coaching stops at Saint Mary’s College of California, and Feather River CC. Twohig has also spent the last 2 summers as the Head Coach of the NorCal Baseball Club where his teams have won 2 gold medals at the USA tournaments in Arizona, and most recently a Nation Championship with the #1 ranked 15-u team in the Nation.

"It is unfortunate that we are losing Coach Kunis, but I am very confident that Coach Twohig can take this growing program to the next level, which hopefully means a trip to Fresno for a State Championship birth" Warden said. "Jordon has been one of the top up and coming assistant coaches in the state and he has been instrumental in transforming the Ohlone baseball program into a success not only on the field but in the classroom as well. Jordon is one of the most organized coaches in the business, someone who is meticulous in his preparation and a coach with a tremendous amount of baseball knowledge."
