Team News, 2009 Season - Ohlone Renegades Men's Baseball

Renegade Bats Break Through for Second Straight Win

Tuesday, February 3, 2009.

FREMONT, CA- It wasn’t a perfect start for the Renegades, but it was a perfect ending.

Michael Ussery's clutch RBI double for the Renegades in the seventh inning gave Ohlone the go-ahead lead as the Renegades beat the College of San Mateo 17-11 Tuesday.

Ussery, along with Steven Ramos' 2-RBI single and Zack Johnson's 2-RBI double, sparked the Renegades seventh inning rally where they scored seven of their 17 runs.

Freshman Roberto Padilla got the start for Ohlone and pitched six innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits with four strikeouts on the day. He came through in the clutch throughout the game despite allowing an early two-run home run and a three-run home run in the sixth inning.

“He held his poise and didn’t lose his cool,” said Head Coach Jordon Twohig. “He gave us a chance for our offense to answer.”

Sophomore right-hander Kevin Radach came in for Padilla in the seventh inning, his only inning of work, allowing two runs on two hits and a strikeout, earning his first win of the season.

"We've had consistent pitching and were able to minimize a very good hitting team in San Mateo," Twohig added.

Sophomore David Luna will look for his first win Thursday when Ohlone starts a three-game home series against West Valley. Freshman Sean Martin, who won his first start on Saturday at Shasta College, will start for the Renegades on Friday.
