Ohlone Renegades baseball team traveled to Diablo Valley College Tuesday night looking to six in a row, however, DVC jumped on the Renegades early and often, and held on for a 12-8 victory.

After five innings, Diablo Valley was up 12-0, with a single run in the first; three in the third; and four in each the fourth and fifth innings. Diablo Valley’s 1-2-3 hitters—Corey Conflenti, Adam Greenberg and Travis Kruger—went a combined 10-13, with seven runs and four RBI.

In the top half of the sixth, Ohlone started to chip away at the 12-run deficit. After a Braxton Miller run-scoring single, Jeff Johnson followed with a two-run homer to cut the lead to 12-3.

Ohlone was back at it in the seventh, scoring three more runs on three singles, two walks and one error. However, they left the bases loaded when JoJo Hernandez flied out to center to end the rally.

After a scoreless eighth inning, Ohlone stepped to the plate in the final frame needing six runs to force Diablo Valley to win the game with their bats.

Miller led of the inning with a walk. After he stole second, both Johnson and Tanner Laran struck out. Aaron Plimmer then came through with a two-run shot to pull the Renegades within four. But, the door was closed when Hernandez struck out, ending the game at 12-8.

Ohlone’s one bright spot, despite the loss, was centerfielder Cody Foster, going 4-5 with a run and RBI. David Hurlbut was the winning pitcher, going five and a third innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, with four strikeouts. Roberto Padilla was the losing pitcher. He scraped his way through three innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits, no strikeouts and one walk.

With the loss, Ohlone dropped to 6-3 on the young season. The Renegades next take the field on February 13 and 14 for the Hancock/Cuesta College Tournament at San Luis Obispo.
