Top-seeded Ohlone College had to rally for an 11-10 win over No. 16 seed and rival Chabot in the first round of the California Community College Northern regional baseball playoffs Saturday in Fremont.
The host Renegades got a game-tying two-run homer from cleanup hitter Jeff Johnson in the top of the ninth to tie the game, then scored the go-ahead run in the 12th on an infield single by Aaron Plimmer. Ohlone (37-9) advanced to the super regionals with its second win in two days in the best-of-three series.
Both teams combined for seven home runs. Johnson had two of them and drove in four runs for the Renegades, who squandered a 7-3 lead in the fifth.
The Gladiators scored six runs in the fifth for a 9-7 advantage. Austin Stewart had an RBI double, before Kerry Jenkins hit a three-run homer to tie the game 7-7. Gene Felise added a 400-foot, two-run homer later in the inning.
Steven Ramos hit a three-run home run and Kyle Holmstrom added a two-run shot for the Renegades. Ian Hoff allowed just one run in seven innings of relief to get the win for Ohlone.
