Ohlone College Renegades to host the Northern California Super-Regional Baseball Championships

Fremont, CA—The Ohlone College Renegades (37-9) will host this year's Northern California Super-Regional Championships. The Renegades earned the #1 seed in the Northern California Playoffs by finishing the regular season 35-9 overall and 20-5 in conference. The Renegades won their first outright Coast Conference-Pacific Division Championship in 18 years, and were ranked #1 in Northern California for seven straight weeks during the season. The Renegades also received National recognition in 2009 – PERFECT GAME Baseball had Ohlone ranked as high as #4 in the country and currently ranks the Renegades #6.

The Renegades advance to the Super-Regional after defeating #16 Chabot College in two straight games in the best-of-three series last weekend in Fremont. In Game 1 Ohlone was led by the bat of Zach Johnson who was 3-4 with a home run and 6 RBI; and pitcher David Luna who picked up his 9th win of the season, throwing 8 innings striking out 8 in the 9-2 Ohlone victory. In Game 2 home runs by Steven Ramos, Kyle Holmstrom and two by Jeff Johnson helped pace the way, but it was sophomore Ryan Harmon's RBI single in the 12th inning that would be the game winner for Ohlone, as pitcher Ian Hoff would throw 7.2 innings and record his 9th win of the season in the 11-10 Ohlone win.

The regional Championship is the 4th of this decade as the Renegades also collected Regional Championships in 2002, 2003, and 2004.

Ohlone comes into the weekend with much momentum as they are hitting .329 as a team with 40 HR and 392 RBI. Ohlone is led by Jeff Johnson who leads the state in home runs with 19, RBI with 66, and slugging percentage with .883. Ohlone's Steven Ramos is hitting .373 with 38 stolen bases, 35 RBI and a team high 74 hits. The Renegades have been blessed with strong pitching all season – sophomores Ian Hoff (9-2) and David Luna (9-1) have helped guide Ohlone through their record breaking year. Freshmen Sean Martin (8-1) and Roberto Padilla (4-4) helped an Ohlone pitching staff to an overall 3.43 team ERA with 338 strikeouts.

The Renegades are led by Head Coach Jordon Twohig, and assisted by Dan Lewis and Erik Kahoalii. Under this coaching staff, the '09 Renegades have broken the all-time single season record for wins in a season at Ohlone College. The former record was 34 set in 2002. This year's team comes into this Super-Regional with 37 and counting. 17 members of this years Ohlone Baseball team were recognized by the Coast Conference Pacific Division as All-Conference players. Ohlone Baseball had eight 1st team members, five 2nd team members and four honorable mentions. Coach Twohig was recognized by the other coaches in conference and received the 2009 conference "Coach of the Year" honors.
