It took an extra inning of baseball to complete Friday's first game of Ohlone College's California Community College Athletic Association Super Regional game against San Jose City College. San Jose edged Ohlone 5-4 with a home run in the top of the 10th inning to push the nationally ranked Renegades into the losers' bracket.

"I've been pretty aggressive in my previous at bats," San Jose first baseman Josiah Rodriguez said of his game-winning home run. "I figured he'd leave an off-speed pitch up in the zone."

Rodriguez went 3-for-5 and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. His home run in the 10th inning was hit off Ohlone pitcher Ian Hoff's first pitch of the inning.

Ohlone was the first to score on a long home run to left-center by third baseman Zach Johnson, his seventh of the season. Johnson finished 4-for-5 with three singles and the home run.

Ohlone held the lead until the eighth inning when starting pitcher Roberto Padilla was pulled for Hoff after allowing three consecutive batters to reach base. Two of the runners scored with Hoff on the mound to tie the game at four.

Neither team scored in the ninth, which forced a 10th inning where Rodriguez hit the game-winning home run.

"Sometimes you don't get the breaks," Ohlone coach Jordan Twohig said. "That's just baseball."

Ohlone, the Northern regionals No. 1 seed and ranked third nationally by Perfect Game Baseball, will try to avoid elimination today against Cosumnes River at Cañada College at 11 a.m.
