For the second straight season, the no.-nine Ohlone College baseball team is off to a 5-1 conference start.
After a nightmarish eighth inning at Canada College in Redwood City on Tuesday, March 9, that saw the Renegade bullpen gave up the go-ahead three runs after leading 7-6 off of two wild pitches and three walks, Ohlone answered back with authority Thursday, March 11, at Mission College.
Starter Matt Fontaine allowed a leadoff homerun to Mission's Sergio Herrera to tie the game at one; Fontaine went on to sit down 18 of the next 20 batters with the only two batters in that streak reaching base after being hit by a pitch. Fontaine went on to pitch a solid eight and a third innings, allowing just two runs.
The Renegade bats fired back with a four-run sixth inning and a three run ninth inning for insurance.
Michael Ussery's RBI single and Michael Di Rocco's RBI triple highlighted Ohlone's four-run sixth that put the Renegades up 7-1.
Renegades ace-lefty Roberto Padilla (5-1, 2.36 ERA) took care of business against Cabrillo College on Saturday, March 13, pitching six and two-thirds, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out six.
With the game tied at one, the Renegades bats got hot in the later innings for the second-straight game, scoring seven runs on seven hits in the sixth inning, en route to an 11-5 win.
