After leading the Ohlone College baseball team to its first State championship last season, and its first national ranking in team history back in 2009, Jordon Twohig has officially resigned as the head coach of Ohlone baseball and accepted a position as the assistant coach for the University of Washington.

Twohig went a combined 74-20 in his two seasons, culminating with the program's first baseball State Championship in May. Ohlone topped rival College of San Mateo in the championship, 16-10, to win it all.

Although athletic director Chris Warden and Ohlone College is still looking for a replacement for Twohig, they have announced that assistant coach Julian Russell will assume the duties as the interim head coach for the number nine team in the nation.

"I am excited to step in as the interim head baseball coach," Russell said in a press release by the college. "It has been a tremendous experience to work alongside my longtime friend and former teammate, Jordon Twohig. Jordon and Athletic Director Chris Warden gave me an opportunity to be part of something very special. I look forward in building upon the success of Ohlone Baseball and the elite status Jordon has worked so hard to create."

Russell coached an Ohlone defense that finished second in the state in fielding with a .970 fielding percentage, and assisted with a lineup that hit .314 as a team in 2010.

Prior to arriving at The Reservation in Fremont, Russell served as an assistant coach for two seasons at the University of Hawaii under Mike Trapasso.

The Renegades finished the regular season with a 28-8 record in 2010, ending the season on a nine-game win streak going into the playoffs, scoring 11 or more runs in six of those games. They also had eight players named to the All-Coast Conference team, along with having the state's pitcher of the year in Roberto Padilla.
