Biography: Julian Russell, Head Coach

Julian Russell is currently is in his first season as Head Coach at Ohlone College, after spending one season as an Assistant Coach for the State Champions.

In 2010 Coach Russell was responsible for coaching third base, assisting with the offense and coaching the infield, a group who carried the second highest fielding percentage in the state (.972) and produced three Coast Conference Gold Glove recipients.

Between 2008-2009 Russell spent two seasons as the Volunteer Assistant at The University of Hawaii where he coached the outfielders, infielders and served as an assistant hitting instructor. Russell had the fortune of coaching an All-American, a Rawlings Collegiate Gold Glove recipient and six All-Conference players. In 2009 Hawaii received a top twenty ranking in Baseball America.

Russell played two seasons at Hawaii from 2002-2003. He was the starting shortstop for much of the 2002 season with the Rainbows, carrying a .290 batting average with 14 runs and eight doubles. He finished the season as one of the team's hottest hitters, batting .412 with four runs in the last two series of the season. He received the Top Scholar Athlete award in 2002 for the baseball team and made the WAC Academic All-Conference team.

Prior to him joining the Rainbows in 2002, Russell spent three years at Feather River College in Quincy, California and was mentored by Jedd Soto (Head Coach St. Mary’s College.) While at Feather River Russell was a two-time All-Conference player, started in 84 consecutive games and helped the Golden Eagles to its first Golden Valley Conference Championship in the schools history. Russell’s Feather River teams also won two Regional Championships.

Russell prepped at Quincy High School in Quincy, CA where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football, and led his baseball team to league titles in 1997, 1998 and received Pioneer League MVP honors.

Russell received his Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Hawaii in December 2003, than went on to get his Master's Degree at the University of San Francisco in Sport Management.

Coach Russell currently resides in Livermore, CA with his wife Paula and three year old daughter, Logan.
