Ohlone College Basketball Coach leaves for Loyola Marymount

March 25, 2014, Tri-City Voice - After 14 years as the full time head men's basketball coach at Ohlone College, John Peterson has resigned and will accept a position as an assistant coach at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. March 21, 2014, Ohlone College Monitor - One of the most successful coaches in Ohlone College history is leaving the school. Men’s basketball coach John Peterson resigned on Monday and will accept an assistant coaching position at the Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Cold Shooting Renegades Fall at Santa Rosa, 67-60

March 6, 2014 - Despite a career high 27 points from Casey Norris, the Renegades lost last evening at Santa Rosa by a final score of 67-60. Ohlone shot 21-58 (36%) from the field, and a paltry 2-20 (10%) from the 3 point line. Sophomores Norris, Andy Mitchell (12 points) and Marcelus Clay (8 points, 5 rebounds) led Ohlone scoring. The Renegades finish the season 23-7, and ranked #12 in the state.

March 6, 2014, Ohlone College Monitor - The Ohlone College men’s basketball team’s playoff dreams came to an end Wednesday night when it traveled to Santa Rosa to take on the Bear Cubs only to fall 67-60. Read more Renegades fall in second round (PDF, page 8).

Ohlone / Santa Rosa Preview

March 4, 2014 - The sixth seeded Renegades (23-6) travel on Wednesday, March 5 to face the #3 seed Santa Rosa Junior College in the Sweet Sixteen. Tip off is at 7:30pm, and we will try to show the game via live stream. All dependent on the internet access in the Santa Rosa gym. Santa Rosa is 20-8 overall, with an 11-1 home record. One of the deadliest shooting teams in the state, they are led by Matthew Hayes (16 ppg) and Alex Kobre (14 ppg). The winner advances to the Elite 8 to face the winner of the Cosumnes River / Fresno City game.

Ohlone Defense Propels Renegades to Sweet Sixteen, Peterson Wins 300th Game

March 3, 2014 - On Friday, February 28, Ohlone defeated the College of the Sequoias (COS) 64-53, putting forth one of its best efforts on the defensive side of the ball. The Renegades forced 21 turnovers, and held COS to just 30% shooting from the filed, and 26% from the 3 point line. Casey Norris led the Rengades with 19 points and Marcelus Clay chipped in with 10. Johan Stenberg and Almir Hadzisehovic both snatched 6 rebounds. The Renegades move on to face Santa Rosa on Wednesday. The win marked number 300 for head coach John Peterson, whose overall record at Ohlone stands at 300-125 (70%).

Renegades get #6 Seed, Host Sequoias on Friday in NorCal Playoffs

February 26, 2014 - The Ohlone College Renegades (22-6 overall, 8-4 Coast Conference, 2nd place), coached by John Peterson, drew the 6th seed in the Norcal Regional Playoffs and will host the #11 seed College of the Sequoias (15-13 overall, 10-2 Central Valley Conference, 2nd place) on Friday, February 28 at 7:00pm on the Ohlone College Fremont campus.

Ohlone has won 7 of its last 9 games, while COS has won 10 in a row (second longest win streak in the state). This is a rematch of a non conference matchup on December 6, 2013 at Ohlone, which the Renegades won. February 26, 2014 - Casey Norris (First Team), Isaiah Omamogho (Second Team), Andy Mitchell and John Stenberg (both honorable mention) were named to all conference teams this week by a vote of the league coaches.

5th ranked Renegades Return Home Wednesday to Open League Play

January 7, 2014 - The Ohlone College men's basketball team returns to Epler Gym on the Fremont Campus to open the Coast Conference schedule tomorrow night (Thursday, January 8) at 7:00pm vs. Foothill College. Ohlone is 14-2 on the season and currently ranked 5th in the state. Tomorrow's game will be live streamed online.

December 10, 2013 - Ohlone ranked 3rd in this week's Massey JUCO's Rankings and 3rd in Northern California JC Rankings.

Ohlone Wins 8th in a Row

December 9, 2013 - The 9th ranked Ohlone College Men's Basketball team took down the visiting Giants of College of the Sequoias on Friday night, 74-48. The win was the 8th in a row, and moves the Renegades to 8-1 on the season. Eleven Renegades scored on the evening, led by John Stenberg's 20 points and three 3 pointers. Marcelus Clay chipped in with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Ohlone was 8019 from the 3, 26-54 overall from the field, and 14-19 from the free throw line. It was one of the better defensive efforts on the season as well, as COS shot just 36% from the field and 14% from the 3 point line. Ohlone is back in action this Thursday night at 8 pm against Merritt College (5-3) in the first round of the San Jose City College Classic.

Ohlone Downs West Valley, Wins 7th in a Row

December 1, 2013 - Almir Hadzisehovic had 15 points and 6 rebounds, Javier De La Blanca had 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Casey Norris had 13 points in the Renegades win last Saturday night. Ohlone combined for 10 made three pointers on 21 attempts (48%), and Isaiah Omamogho and Andy Mitchell combined for 10 assists. Final score was Ohlone 80-65.

Renegades Take Shasta Invitational with Win Over DVC

November 25, 2013 - Ohlone finished off a fantastic weekend with a 67-53 win over DVC in the Championship Game of the Shasta Invitational. After opening the weekend with a 97-80 win over Merritt College, Ohlone then took down fellow Coast Conference foe Canada College 86-64 in the semi finals. Casey Norris led the way against Merritt with 21 points, 10 assists and 8 steals, and Guru Sanghera chipped in with 13 points and 9 rebounds. In the semifinals it was Johan Stenberg's 17 points, and Isaiah Omamogho's 14 points that led the way. In the Final vs. DVC, Almir had 16 points and 6 rebounds, Casey Norris had 14 points, Javi De LA Blanca had 11 and 10 rebounds, and Isaiah Omamogho chipped in with 10. The Renegades moved to 6-1 on the year with the three wins.

November 21, 2013, Ohlone College Monitor - The 10th annual Jonathan Wallace Memorial Tournament wrapped up Saturday at the Ohlone College Fremont campus. The championship game pitted Delta College against the Cabrillo College Seahawks. Read more Renegades fly high in tourney (PDF).

Ohlone Bounces Back With 102-59 win over Feather River

November 8, 2013 - After suffering through a horrible shooting night one day earlier, the Renegades offense turned it up a notch with a 102-59 victory over the Golden eagles. Six different players scored in double figures, led by Johan Stenberg's 17 points (including 3 from downtown). Almir Hadzisehovic had 15, Guru Sanghera and Javi De La Blanca each had 14, Marcelus Clay had 12, and Ryo Tawatari chipped in with 10. Ohlone faces the winner of Shasta College and Canada College Saturday at 11:00am at Ohlone.

Ohlone Loses Home Opener, 68 – 64

November 8, 2013 - Delta rushed off to a quick start, 14-2, and held off a furious comeback late by the Renegades in the final minutes to win the season opener in the first round of the Jon Wallace Memorial. Alex Simmons led the Mustangs with 21 points (all on 3 pointers) as they built a 18 point second half lead with just over 8 minutes to go. But the Renegades rallied behind Casey Norris (19 points) and Almir Hadzisehovic (17 points on 7-13 shooting), getting the lead down to 2 with a minute to go. Ohlone committed just 13 turnovers on the night (2 in the first half), but shot a miserable 23-67 from the field and 2-19 from the 3 point line. Johan Stenberg chipped in with 12 points and 9 rebounds and made the Rengades only two 3-point baskets. Ohlone faces Feather River College in a 1:00pm consolation game today at Epler Gymnasium. The game will be broadcast via live stream. If the Renegades win (check our Twitter and Facebook pages), they will play Saturday at 11:00am.

Renegades Open Season Thursday in 10th Annual Jon Wallace Tourney

November 6, 2013 - The 12th ranked Ohlone College Renegades open the 2013-2014 season at home with the Jonathan Wallace Memorial Basketball Tournament on Thursday, November 7 in a 1:00pm contest vs. the Delta College Mustangs.  Ticket prices at $7 for adults, $5 for kids under 12 and seniors, free for Ohlone College faculty, staff and students.  Review the bracket for the Jonathan Wallace Tournament (PDF).  Please check our Twitter and Facebook pages for game time updates over the weekend.

November 6, 2013 - The Ohlone College Renegades received are one of just five Northern California teams ranked in the Massey Ratings top 20 preseason poll.
