Basketball continues on…with a twist!

March 4, 2013 - The Men's team started it out with a great win over Yuba College on Friday night…and the Women followed that up with a fantastic win against Modesto JC on Saturday night. So, as you would imagine, both teams are moving on to the next round.

The Women will be traveling to Sierra College (in Rocklin) for their game this Wednesday evening (March 6). The Sierra Wolverines are seeded #3 and have a win/loss record of 22-7. Our lady Renegades will have their hands full, but I'm confident that a Renegade can conquer a Wolverine.

Now…here's the twist I spoke of…

There was a huge upset over the weekend in Fresno…so as luck may have it, Ohlone will be hosting the next game…this Wednesday evening at 7:00pm. The Ohlone Men's team will be playing against a very confident Merritt College, who have an overall record of 16-12.

General admission ticket prices for Wednesday's game at Ohlone have been reduced by $2 as an added bonus to bring the family and friends.

  • General Admission: $8
  • Students, Faculty, and Staff with ID: $5
  • Children under 12: $5
  • Seniors 60 and over: $5

I hope to see you all there wearing your Green and Gold!! Go Renegades!

Basketball filled weekend for Ohlone!

February 26, 2013 - Both the Men's and Women's Basketball teams have made it into the CCCAA playoffs and will be hosting this first round of competition Friday and Saturday, March 1 -2 in Epler Gym on the Fremont campus.

First up will be the Men's team (7 seed) who will be battling against the Yuba College 49ers (10 seed) this Friday at 7:00pm [CCCAA Playoffs Men's Basketball Bracket (PDF)].  This will be a fierce competition where only one will survive to play the following Wednesday (location yet to be determined).

Second up will be the Lady Renegades (6 seed) who have their eyes on beating the Modesto Junior College Pirates (11 seed) on Saturday at 7:00pm [CCCAA Playoffs Women's Basketball Bracket (PDF)].  This is a single elimination tournament, so whoever wins, moves on to Wednesday…and who loses, goes home (insert dramatic music here!).

Ticket prices for Friday and Saturday's games are:

  • General Admission: $10
  • Students, Faculty, and Staff with ID: $5
  • Children under 12: $5
  • Seniors 60 and over: $5

I hope to see you at both games cheering on our very own student athletes.  They have made it through a very difficult season and are now looking to take their abilities to a higher level.

Foreign players have Ohlone men's basketball team riding high

January 9, 2013, Inside Bay Area - When his Swedish and Norwegian players start talking in their native languages during games, Ohlone College men's basketball coach John Peterson can understand them. He once lived in Sweden for a year, but the guy toting the whistle on the court is probably lost in translation. "I can only imagine what they say to the referees," Peterson quipped.
