"It means a lot to me and the team that we won this big game," said Chabot's forward Jonathan Darwin, who, like the rest of this team, walked out of the Epler Gymnasium with a sense of overwhelming joy, as the Chabot Gladiators were victorious over their previously-undefeated conference rivals, the Ohlone Renegades, by surprise, in a close knit game, 71-65.

The game started off with both teams matching baskets, until Ohlone took the lead right before the first half ended, at 28-25.

As the second half opened, the Renegades soon lost their slim lead, as Chabot's Mark Stevenson (20 points) and Jonathan Darwin (10 points) tied the game up at 39 with 12 minutes remaining. And Chabot proceeded to dominate from then, on.

Ohlone tried to keep the score close, with 3-point efforts of Matt Wittbrodt (9 points) and Scott Clark (9 points), to close up the gap, but those attempts fell short.

A.J. Fluornoy, who led the Renegades with 25 points, felt his team gave its best effort, but that it wasn't enough for this game.

And Coach John Peterson saw a different game from the bench. "We just didn't play hard enough tonight," said Coach Peterson. "They put up a better game then we did."

Putting their lost behind, the Renegades traveled to Ca–ada College, and bounced back with a convincing victory on the road, defeating the Colts, 78-56. Scott Clark led the scoreboard with 11 points, while teammate Alpha N'Diaye put up nine.

Now 5-1 in conference, and with a record of 18-7 overall, the Renegades will be hosting Skyline College at home on Saturday, Jan. 31, looking to improve its league record.
