Ohlone falls in heartbreaker to Reedley

The third time wasn't a charm for the Ohlone College Renegades men's basketball team. The Renegades were playing in its third consecutive appearance in the CCCAA Regional Finals, on their home court, Epler Gymnasium, at Ohlone's Fremont campus on Saturday, March 7.
In the role of spoilers were the Reedley College Tigers (26-6) from the Central Valley Conference, who were just that much better in sweating out a 58-57 win over Ohlone. The victory sends the Tigers into the Elite Eight, which will be played at Selland Arena in Fresno.
The Renegades played the visiting Tigers as close as a team possibly could in the second half - after two quarters Reedley led 29-28, and the second half was a 29-29 standoff. Ultimately, the factor that tilted the scales toward Reedley was their outside shooting, specifically Justin Ayers, who notched 21 of his game-leading 23 points, including seven 3's; teammate Marquel Hoskins scored seven.
A.J. Flourney led Ohlone (25-9) with 15 points, followed by Tim Bowman's 12, James Hancock's 11 and Tim Bowman's 12.
Against Reedley, Ohlone could have used at least one of the 3-pointers they were nailing in their opening round 85-63 win over Merritt College on March 1. West hit five 3's in the win, and Hancock scored 19, with 17 coming in the one-sided second half. Alpha N'Diaye hit 14 and Ronnie Sawyer chipped in 13 for the Renegades.
