Ohlone Beats City by 19, Clinches Share of Conference Title
Monday, February 15, 2010.
Reggie Jones scored 26 points, and Ohlone used a 25-3 scoring run to start the second half to beat City 76-57. The win gives the Renegades a 2 game lead with 2 to play, assuring at least a share of the conference title. This is the 5th conference championship since 2003 for Ohlone.
Ohlone’s trapping defense held the Rams to just 7 field goals in the second half, including just 3 during the run to open the half. Sophomore PG Demetris Love, starting the second half for injured Quaran Johnson, scored 7 points during a 2 minute span to help put the Rams away for good. This was a game of huge runs: Trailing 15-11 in the first half, Ohlone went on a 17-2 run to take a 28-17 lead with 4:42 left. The Rams countered with a 15-4 run to tie the game at 32 heading into the break.
Scott Clark added 13 points, and Ohlone had 6 players with at least 7 points (Love-9, Ronnie Sawyer-8, Isaiah Moore-7, Lavon Gray-8 and 10 rebounds). Sophomores Chris White and Bennie Rhodes had 11 points each and Da’Ron Sims chipped in with 10.
Ohlone can win the league title outright with a victory Wednesday vs. Las Positas College. Tip off is 5:30 pm. This will be the last regular season home game for the Renegades.
