Ohlone College men's basketball finished the season very strong with wins over Las Positas and Chabot College, wrapping up the Coast Conference North title and heading into the playoffs as the number-one ranked team in the state.
The Renegades clinched the CCN with an 82-58 whipping of Las Positas on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Up by 10 at the half, Ohlone came roaring out of the gate in the second half, going on a 22-3 run which ended the suspense. Lavon Grey led Ohlone with 17 points. Ronnie Sawyer scored 16 and Maurice Briggs popped in 12.
Ohlone's win over Chabot on Friday, Feb. 19, was especially sweet, considering that the Gladiators were the only CCN team to beat the Renegades this season. Another explosive second half for Ohlone settled matters - they outscored the Gladiators 43-26 in the half - for a final of 73-48.
Reggie Jones led Ohlone with 22. Scott Clark (11 points), Demetris Love (10) and Sawyer (10) all scored in double digits. Mark Stevenson led Chabot with 11 points. Chabot ended the season with an 18-8 overall record, going 7-5 in the CCN.
As of press time, the brackets for the postseason have not yet been released, but coach John Peterson's Renegades will go in as a number one seed, finishing the regular season with a 22-4 record, 11-1 in the CCN.
