Ohlone Men’s Soccer Prepare for season opener

Friday, August 22, 2008.

Fremont, CA - Ohlone men’s soccer first year men’s soccer coach Don Williams announced that 2008 roster has been finalized. Ohlone opens the season on Wednesday, August 27th against visiting Fresno City College for a 4pm kickoff and follows that match up with by traveling to Cañada College to take on the Colts for a 2pm start on Friday August 29th.

Coach Williams who has been with Cal State East Bay for the past 10 seasons said “I am very excited about this squad that we have, they have been working extremely hard in training and are dedicating themselves to succeeding on the field and in the classroom.”

“From everyone I talk to Ohlone has been lucky to have 15 men show up for tryouts and this year we actually had to parry down the roster to our final 18” said Coach Williams.

The 2008 Ohlone team will be lead by sophomore captains Sean Powers and Patrick Lee and should feature a high powered offense lead by Powers and Lee while freshman Nick Sanchez is also expected to make an impact in the Renegades attack. Iman Aghel is slated to be the starting keeper while Daniel Galloway and Uliles Montes are expected to help anchor the Ohlone defense.

Coach Williams has been with Cal State East Bay for the past 10 seasons and so he understands what it takes to prepare players to play at the 4 year university level. Coach Williams was asked about his goals for the men’s soccer program and he stated “We are infusing a new brand of discipline and excitement into a previously struggling Renegades soccer program here at Ohlone with the goal being to get as many of our men as possible on to playing soccer at the 4 year level. Our measure of success will be prevailing in the classroom as well as winning on the field. If I can use my experience at the 4 year level to get my players where they need to be technically, tactically and academically in order to move on to a 4 year college or university then I have done my job.”
