Team News, 2008 Season - Ohlone Renegades Men's Soccer
Renegades Men’s Continues to Improve
Friday, September 12, 2008.
Napa, CA – Ohlone men’s soccer visited Napa Valley College Friday and while they outshot the host team, 8 – 7 walked away with a 2 – 1 loss on the afternoon.
With the exception of 5 minutes at the end of the first half the Renegades outshot and outplayed Napa, but 5 minutes was all Napa needed to get 2 goals and seal the win. “You have to play full out for the entire 90 minutes every time you compete if you want to get the win, the men tried to take the last 5 minutes of the 1st half off and relax and Napa took advantage of us and stuck their 2 goals in,” said coach Don Williams.
Eric Underwood (Newark, CA Newark Memorial High School) was in goal for Ohlone and ended up with 5 saves on the day.
The lone Renegades goal was a thing of beauty and definitely a bright spot. The ball was sent up to Michael Ugbeme (Nigeria) and dropped back to newly named captain Scott Hamilton (Fremont, CA Irvington High School). Scott sent the ball into the corner for Nick Sanchez (San Mateo, CA Capuchino High School) who crossed it for Adam Hernandez (Fremont, CA Kennedy High School) who stuck in the cross in one touch for his first goal of the season. Of the goal Coach Williams said, “The goal we scored today was exactly what we work on in training every day, moving the ball up front, dropping it back and going wide for a cross is one very effective way of tearing defenses apart and I am pleased to see our training translating into matches.”
The Ohlone men look to pick up their first win of the season when they travel to American River College in Sacramento on Tuesday.
