Ohlone Men Find Silver Lining
Tuesday, September 30, 2008.
San Francisco, CA – Ohlone men’s traveled to City College of San Francisco to battle the defending conference champions and currently undefeated Rams. The Ohlone lost 4 – 0 but Renegades co-captain Sean Powers (Newark, CA Newark Memorial High) was able to find the silver lining in the dark cloud of the loss. “our team last year barely got off a shot and should have lost 15 – 0, last year San Francisco got of 25 shots in the first half alone. Now we are proving we can play with the best in the nation.”
What made Powers so positive? It was the fact that Ohlone stayed with the Rams the entire match. The Rams had 10 shots to Ohlone’s 9. Ohlone was lead by co-captain Patrick Lee (Fremont, Ca Mission San Jose High) who had a team high 5 shots on the day, the best of which was a free kick that sent the Rams keeper flying back tipping the ball out for a corner kick.
Renegades keeper Iman Aghel (Mashad, Iran Allamah High School) made 6 saves in the match including a spectacular reaction save that sent him flying backward on a shot from 8 yards out.
Ohlone coach Don Williams said “the men just have to understand that when you play this game the little mistakes catch up to you and good teams like San Francisco make you pay.” The mistakes coach Williams was referring to were 3 missed clearances that led to 3 of the 4 Rams goals, all of which were off of set plays.
“I know what I see out there, we are playing with guts and not backing down to anyone, we are moving the ball in attack, pressuring teams and defending in the flow of play very well. A win is just around the corner, we must believe in ourselves and do the right things win or lose.” Coach Williams said.
Ohlone regroups over the next two days and will work on their game preparing to take on Foothill in a double header Friday.
