Team News, 2008 Season - Ohlone Renegades Men's Soccer
Galloway, Aghel and Lee Lead the Way to Win
Tuesday, November 4, 2008.
Fremont, CA – The Las Positas Hawks came looking for revenge for the 2 – 0 loss to Ohlone last Thursday but again came out on the losing end of things to the Renegades. The match was again very tight with both defenses showing no sign of giving in and it was again 0 – 0 at the half. But just like last Thursday Daniel Galloway (Fremont, CA Irvington High School) picked up the match winning goal. This time it was Patrick Lee (Fremont, CA Mission San Jose High) who provided the assist. Lee launched a 60 yard driven free kick into the penalty box that Galloway challenged the keeper for, the Hawks keeper got a fist to the ball but it deflected off the head of one of his defenders and headed toward the goal. Galloway coolly shielded the ball from the Las Positas keeper and virtually walked it into the net.
Las Positas played much better in this outing than on last Thursday with the shot count coming in at 8 – 5 in favor of the Renegades.
Darwin Eng (Fremont, CA American High) helped Lee anchor the central defense for the Renegades and helped Ohlone earn their 3rd shutout of the season and Renegades keeper Iman Aghel (Mashad, Iran Allamah High School) made 5 saves in the match including a heart stopping dive down to his left to save a shot from 6 yards out.
“Putting together back to back solid 90 minute performances is what I asked of the men and from there whatever happens is what happens.” Coach Williams stated. “I have been preaching from day 1 to control the controllable and let the rest go. These young men are learning that lesson and it will serve them well in life….. I am so proud of them.”
The Renegades travel Friday to play Evergreen Valley College who is currently ranked #15 in the nation for a 7pm kickoff.
