Team News, 2008 Season - Ohlone Renegades Men's Soccer
Renegades fall to #15 in the Nation Evergreen Valley
Tuesday, November 7, 2008.
San Jose, CA – Ohlone men’s traveled to Evergreen Valley College to battle the nationally ranked Eagles and fell 6 – 2. In a fashion all too typical this season the Renegades fell behind the Eagles going down 4 – 0 at the half. However, also typical of Ohlone the Renegades refused to give up scoring 2 in the second half and matching the Eagles shot for shot, blow for blow and nearly scoring 2 more.
“We could easily have scored 4 or 5 today it was amazing to watch our men come from behind believing all the way that we could come back on Evergreen” said coach Don Williams. Abdul Yasini (Fremont, Ca) opened the scoring for the Renegades from an assist by Darwin Eng (Fremont, CA American High School).
Not long after their opening goal Nick Sanchez (San Mateo, CA Capuchino High School) stuck in his second goal of the season from an assist by Michael Ugbeme (Nigeria).
Renegades keeper Iman Aghel (Mashad, Iran Allamah High School) made 6 saves in the match including a spectacular reaction save that sent him flying backward on a shot from 8 yards out.
Coach Don Williams said “Evergreen was by far the fastest team we have played against this year and they are very skilled, I can see why they are so highly ranked but we did not back down to them nor were we intimidated, it was just tough to match their team speed.”
Ohlone has had an extremely tough schedule this year playing 7 nationally ranked opponents. Coach Williams believes “you should never run from a fight with the best, it only makes you stronger.”
The Ohlone men will be looking for win number four Tuesday afternoon for a 3pm kickoff against Gavilan College.
