Bio: Don Williams, Head Coach, Men's Soccer
Don Williams has coached in the collegiate ranks for 11 years and was with the Bay Area Seals in 2000. The Bay Area Seals were a 2nd Division Professional men’s team that competed in the USL A-League and he has been coaching teams, field players and goalkeepers in Northern California for over 15 years. Don is involved with training goalkeepers for the Northern California Olympic Development Program (ODP) has been the keeper coach and an assistant coach for California State University East Bay for 10 years.
As far as coaching at Ohlone College Don is very excited to take on a new challenge. “I am truly honored to be the new head men’s soccer coach at Ohlone College”. “The school has really made a commitment to winning as well as a very strong commitment education. I want to thank Athletic Director Chris Warden for this opportunity.” In addition to his busy training schedule, he is also is a staff coach for the Northern California Youth Soccer Association teaching and licensing coaches at the National D courses and all other CYSA coaching courses. Don has also been a featured clinician for the CYSA equipment show and AGM 4 times.
Through his innovative training methods Don has trained players to go on to play in England, Germany, the MLS, the USL as well playing successfully for many NCAA universities at division all levels. In addition a number of players Don has trained have been selected into the Olympic Development Program all the up to the youth U.S. National team level.
Don holds an "A" Licensed with the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) & is a National Diploma graduate with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Don’s approach to goalkeeping and training in general is simply to analyze what happens in a game and to devise training methods that simulate this environment. Don says "If it doesn't happen in a game I don't do it in training."
Don has become one of the top soccer coaches and trainers for teams, field players as well as goalkeepers in Northern California and provides camps, team trainings and various clinics in California throughout the year. His favorite soccer quote is also his training philosophy “the way you train is the way you play!”
