As the fall 2009 semester started for Ohlone College in Fremont, the Renegades sports programs began their seasons. Here's a recap of opening day at Ohlone.
The Renegades came out against Gavilan College last Tuesday, Sept. 1, ready to fight back from a 2-0 loss to West Hills back on August 28. Despite trailing 1-0 to Gavilan at halftime, Ohlone came back scoring three goals against the Rams to win their first game of the season 3-1, avoiding another losing streak to start the season.
"The game itself is very critical for us, as is the win," said Ohlone Men's Soccer Head Coach Jan Nordmo. "It was a really good game, and it was good to see them feel that confidence, and that confidence is critical for this team."
Gavilan struck first in the 20th minute off Victor Iracheta's goal to put the Rams up 1-0 midway through the first half.
The Rams seemed to have control of the game throughout the first half, however the Renegades fought back early in the second half, tying the game at 1-1 off Jarod Fluke's header from a Sean Randall throw-in in the 47th minute. Ohlone played the aggressor against the Rams in the second half, getting off shot after shot against the Gavilan defense, and scored twice more off goals from Edgar Moncaleano in the 69th and Jonathan Santillam in the 85th minute.
