  • Ohlone of Coast South Division, Conference / Division Match
  • Cabrillo @ Ohlone
  • Ohlone 2, Cabrillo 1

Go forward early and score was the game plan for Ohlone today. The Renegades followed the instructions to the letter. Although the initial moments looked this way, the ensuing ten minutes found Ohlone struggling to gain a foothold as the Seahawks were not subscribing to the Ohlone plan.

Iman Aghel was called into action early as Ohlone’s backs were split often, but not to any one in particular, which suited keeper Aghel fine as he smartly cleaned up all intruders.

Renegades freshman, George Mayer II, was up for adding to his goal tally for the season (10) having two early shots that Seahawk keeper, Carlos Flores, managed to smoother. Near twenty minutes in, Marc Wilson, sophomore forward, found himself atop the Cabrillo eighteen with a passing opportunity splitting the left side backs where overlapping Dustin Richards, midfielder, found the mark and tattooed the far right net to set Ohlone in motion.

Ohlone were not pushing much and actually sucked up a lot of pressure from Cabrillo, however, the pressure was not considered too dangerous and was handled with Saman Haidari anchoring the right side back next to Cody Nathan, sophomore. Both players were in control despite a bit of Seahawk persistency.

Ohlone met the net again late in the first half when Mayer smartly broke a developing Seahawk attack initiated at the back line, like a thief in the night, Mayer saw the opportunity and snuck the ball from the careless play of Cabrillo. Mayer buried the ball from sixteen years out with a worm-burning laser inches off the still damp turf. Ohlone’s game was on, and the pressure would continue as the half wound down.

Half two was not attractive for either side, however, the Seahawks, would get a souvenir from the game about midway through the half when the ever capitulating Ohlone line permitted too much time on their defensive end and were promptly punished by a well struck ball off the foot of Edgar Bedolla. This goal energized the Cabrillo side and Ohlone were not going to walk away with an easy win.

Waves of attack now pushed upon the Renegades and it looked as though a win might give way to a draw. Ohlone struggled to gain momentum until the last ten minutes when possessive play and smart action on the Renegades enabled them to manage the assault and get to the final whistle that bestowed Ohlone with another win.
