Match Report: Renegades on Path Again, Still Undefeated at Home

  • Game Day: Tuesday, October 12, 2010
  • Ohlone of Coast South Division, Conference Match
  • Gavilan @ Ohlone
  • Ohlone 4, Gavilan 1

The Ohlone Renegades capped off the Gavilan Rams Tuesday at full speed. Ohlone hit the goal early when Jarod Flukes opening shot caught keeper Alfredo Pardo off guard but with enough sense to block the ball. Carlos Contreras was fortunate and alert enough to see Pardo’s save was not to be kept in hand and promptly poked the fumbled ball as it hit the ground near Pardo’s foot.

Contreras would be smart and prompt all day as he plugged the gap left when George Mayer was played only sparingly, protecting him from an injury suffered in last week’s game at Evergreen.

Contreras' second goal was truly spectacular as David Kulhanek played the ball right up the center of the field to Contreras. Contreras on a break being hotly pursued by two Gavilan Rams, came to near complete stop atop the penalty box as keeper Pardo squared up with him. Contreras, in calm cool fashion simply scooped the ball up and over the keeper for his second finish.

Gavilan were more organized this time around despite the two goal deficit and would push on Ohlone’s left side all game. A throw-in broke down the Ohlone back side and a driven ball near the post skipped along the cross bar bottom but bounced out in the end.

Two other attempts were picked up by Ohlone keeper, Elmer Ceja, who although not busy blocking shots all the time was kept on his game by cleaning up several through ball.

Contreras put his hat trick in the books at the half hour mark when Nicholas Sanchez-Torres tore down the Ohlone right side and sliced a service across the face of the goal where the second post had Contreras waiting for the golden opportunity which he took to task and buried the ball in the net.

Contreras was called back into action late in half two after Gavilan were able to catch keeper, Eric Underwood off guard and narrowed the Gavilan deficit by one. Contreras back on the field after a brief rest looked pacey and strong.

Back, Ricardo Martinez, played through the midfield and breaking the Rams latest drive had spotted Contreras on the move. Martinez slotted the ball up to Contreras who carried the ball left of goal and powered the ball by Christhian Maravilla for the final score of the match.
