Ohlone's Ramos 1-hits Chabot

Fremont—After playing three Coast Conference North games on the road, the Ohlone College softball team was nearly flawless in a 9-1 win over rival Chabot on Thursday.

The game was called in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.

"After a few on the road, it was nice to play a game at home," Ohlone coach Donna Runyon said.

The Renegades (5-1) improved to 2-1 in conference play, while the Gladiators fell to 0-3.

"It's always a rivalry with us," Runyon said. "With these games, you can throw away the records, standings and all that stuff."

Leading the way Tuesday was American High graduate Isabel Ramos. The sophomore pitcher threw a complete-game one-hitter. She walked only two and struck out nine.

She had a string of five straight strikeouts and a perfect game going until she allowed a hit in the fourth inning.

Ramos helped her own cause at the plate, getting a two-run double in a four-run fourth inning that gave Ohlone a 5-0 lead.

"She was focused today," Runyon said.

Ohlone's Valerie Briones went 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs.
