Ohlone's Colker one-hits Shasta

REDDING—It appears nothing is going to get in the way of the Ohlone College softball team, not even a four-hour-plus bus ride to face Shasta in a second-round NorCal regional playoff game.
The Renegades left Thursday to avoid the dreaded Friday traffic and took the opportunity to do some team bonding.
"We had practice up here Friday and enjoyed a nice barbecue that night," Ohlone coach Donna Runyon said.
On Saturday, the Renegades got a one-hit pitching performance from Newark Memorial High graduate Kelly Colker in a 1-0 win in a best-of-3 series that resumes today at noon. A 2 p.m. game will be played if necessary.
"We came up so prepared for anything, you can imagine would happen," Runyon said.
A right-handed freshman, Colker allowed a hit in the first inning and hit a batter in the fourth. She would go on to retire the final 16 batters in order. Colker walked none and struck out four.
The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning when Cassandra Ortega hit a home run to center field.
Defensively, the Renegades were almost flawless. They committed one error, but came up huge defensively in the bottom of the fourth. With a runner on first base and a ball hit to deep center, Danielle Yee made the catch and doubled off the runner at first. The next batter hit a flyout to Yee to end the inning.
"We have 16 players, five coaches and a trainer up here, and we're all on the same page," Runyon said.
The winner of this series advances to the state tournament, which will be held in Riverside. The state tournament pits four teams from the north against four teams from the south.
