Renegades fall at state championship - May 20, 2009, Tri-City Voice - For Fremont's Ohlone College Renegades, it was their first trip to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Softball Championships, which was held this past weekend, May 15-17, at Salinas Sports Complex. It had the top four seeded teams remaining from Nor Cal and So Cal after two weekends of regional play. Ohlone started Nor Cal regional play seeded sixth and came into the state finals as the four seed from Nor Cal, pitting them against So Cal number one, Cypress College Chargers, in the first round.
Regional Champions advance to State Tournament! The Women's Softball team won Round 2 of Regionals and goes to the State Championship Tournament! This is an 8 team tournament (4 teams from Northern California and 4 from Southern California). The State Tournament is Friday-Sunday, May 15-17 at the Salinas Sports Complex (at 1034 N. Main St., Salinas, CA 93906). The first game for the Lady Renegades is against Cypress College (seeded #1 from Southern California) at 2:00pm, this Friday, May 15! If you can make it to the game, the Lady Renegades would live your support! Go Renegades!
Ohlone softball continues on with upset of Consumnes River - May 13, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Ohlone Renegades softball team traveled to Sacramento last Saturday and Sunday, May 9-10, to take on Nor Cal number-three seed, Consumnes River College Hawks in a best of three format, with the winner advancing to the CCC State playoffs this coming weekend, May 15-17, in Salinas.
Round 2 Playoffs Coming Up! Over the May 2-3 weekend, our Lady Renegades Softball team won the 1st Round of the Regional State Playoffs and will advance to the Round 2 Regional Playoffs next weekend May 9-10 for the right to compete in the State Tournament!
Our girls swept the visiting Merced Blue Devils 2 games to 0 (Saturday 2-0, Sunday 3-1). The Renegades held the Merced offense to just 1 run in two games this weekend. Congratulates to the Ohlone Softball team, Head Coach Donna Runyon, and her staff on a fantastic regular season, and continued success throughout the playoffs.
These girls are very good. If you can, come watch them play next weekend! Round is is at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento. It is a best 2 out of 3 series. Saturday's game begins at 2:00pm; Sunday's games are 12:00pm and the "if needed" game is at 2:00pm. If we win we are eligible to play in the State Championship on May 15-16-17 in Salinas, California.
2009 Coast Conference Champions - Ohlone's Softball team has 10 players recognized in Coast Conference North in 2009. Ohlone has now captured the Conference title an unprecedented "7" consecutive years. (2003-2009)!

Have You Heard About the Ohlone Softball Team? If you haven't, then here you go!!!! The Renegade Softball team has once again launched into the post-season! The Lady Renegades (seeded #6 with a record of 35-9) will be challenged this weekend May 2-3 by the Merced Blue Devils (seeded #11 with a record of 26-17) in Round 1 of the Regional Playoffs. First pitch on Saturday will be at 2:00pm. Sunday will have a first pitch of 12:00pm and a possible 3rd game at 2:00pm. This series will be best 2 out of 3. Should you happen to see Coach Donna Runyon and/or any of her student athletes, please make sure you congratulate them for an unprecedented 7th consecutive Coast Conference Championship!
Kelly Colker is Tri-City Voice Sports Female Athlete of the Month for May 2009 - May 1, 2009, Tri-City Voice Sports - Tri-City Voice Sports has named Kelly Colker, a sophomore pitcher for the Ohlone Renegades Community College softball team, May Female Athlete of the Month for her accomplishments last month. Colker is also a 2007 graduate of Newark Memorial High School.
Renegades make playoffs - April 29, 2009, Tri-City Voice - For the Ohlone Renegades, it is now on to the regional playoffs which begin this Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3 in a best two-out-of-three format. Ohlone received the sixth seed out of 16 teams in NorCal and will host number-11 seed, Merced College. … Ohlone's games will be played on the Ohlone Campus. Game times are Saturday, May 2, at 2 p.m.; Sunday, May 3, at noon; and Game 3, if necessary, will follow Game 2.
Ohlone softball awaits seed - April 22, 2009 , Tri-City Voice - Ohlone Renegades softball ended their season on an eight-game winning streak, going 3-0 last week in softball (Mission of Santa Clara, 12-1, on Tuesday, April 14; De Anza of Cupertino, 9-0, on April 16; and Chabot, 2-0, on April 18). They finished 16-1 in Coast Conference North (CCN) Division play, 35-9 overall.
Local JC softball teams lose critical games - April 8, 2009, Tri-City Voice - …Ohlone has all but locked up CCN first place. However, their positioning in the postseason took a hit when they dropped a 3-2 decision to CCS first place, San Jose City, on the March 31. Ohlone needed that win to have a chance to be one of the top four seeded teams in the postseason to guarantee home field advantage in both the first and second rounds of the Nor Cal Playoffs. Both rounds are a best two out of three. The Renegades are now fighting to be one of the top eight seeded teams to host a first round playoff game.
Renegades bearing down for the home stretch - March 25, 2009, Tri-City Voice - For Head Coach Dona Runyon's Ohlone softball team, it is time to start positioning themselves for the upcoming California Community College Softball Tournament. Although a seventh straight Coast Conference North championship has not been mathematically secured, barring a dramatic collapse, they should be able to stay ahead of their nearest pursuers, Chabot College of Hayward and the College of San Mateo.
2009 March Madness Classic not wet, but wild - March 19, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Thanks to the efforts of Ohlone softball Head Coach Donna Runyon and her staff of volunteer parents and other Ohlone College personnel, the 2009 version of fast pitch softball went without a hitch. The two day tournament, Saturday and Sunday, March 14-15, at Fremont's Central Park, allowed sixteen Northern and Central California community college women's softball teams to play four-six games in the cold, but dry, conditions which consisted of plenty of wild and crazy plays.
March Madness softball wraps up - March 15, 2009, Contra Costa Times - IT'S A MAD softball world at Central Park in Fremont this weekend. Led by ace pitcher Kelly Colker, a Newark Memorial High graduate, the powerful Ohlone College softball team is hosting its 17th annual March Madness tournament. The 16-team event began Saturday with pool play and wraps up today.
Ohlone sweeps three games - March 14, 2009, Contra Costa Times - It was quite a display the Ohlone College softball team put on during the first day of the 17th Annual March Madness Tournament at Central Park. The host Renegades went 3-0, outscoring their opponents 36-2.
Central Park in Fremont to host 2009 March Madness Classic - March 11, 2009, Tri-City Voice - March Madness is coming to Central Park in Fremont this coming weekend (Saturday and Sunday, March 14-15) on fields 3, 4, 5 and 6. This version of March Madness is in the form of women's fast-pitch softball. Sixteen teams from community colleges across Northern and Central California will participate in this two-day event with each team playing three games on Saturday, and from one to three games on Sunday.
Ohlone guts out win over Chabot - March 5, 2009, Inside Bay Area: The Argus - The Chabot College softball team put up a strong effort against rival and six-time conference champion Ohlone, but the Renegades used a four-run fourth inning and a gutty pitching effort from ace Kelly Colker in a 9-4 win over the host Gladiators in Coast Conference action Thursday.
Local JC softball and baseball teams putting up wins - March 2, 2009, Tri-City Voice Sports - For the Renegade softballers of Head Coach Donna Runyon, they were 2-1 with a rainout. The victories were a 10-0, five-inning game against Mission; and 6-3 against nonconference opponent, Solano. The loss was another 2-1 game versus nonconference foe, Siskiyous.
Ohlone playing nail biters - February 25, 2009, Tri-City Voice - Rain washed out games for both Chabot and Ohlone's softball teams on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Renegades Softball suffers season's first loss - February 11, 2009, Tri-City Voice - After starting the 2009 season 4-0, following a 2-1 win over Sierra of Rocklin on February 3, the Ohlone softball team suffered its first defeat of the season when they lost two home games last Sunday, Feb. 8.
Ohlone softball coach lauded for 700th win - December 5, 2008, Fremont Bulletin - For the Lady Renegades Softball Team it was a year of amazing victories and gut-wrenching losses. There were also a number of blow-out wins by eight runs or more, but no losses of more than five runs. Only twice all year did a team score more than six runs in a game against Ohlone.
Donna Runyon receives 700th win Milestone Award - December 1, 2008, Press Release, - Donna Runyon, Ohlone College women’s softball coach, will receive a well deserved 700th win Victory Club Milestone Award. This prestigious award is being presented by Easton Sports this December in Marco Island, Florida at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Convention. The event celebrates Division I, II III, NAIA, Junior College and High School coaches who have received milestone wins in their careers.
Ohlone College's Kathryn Sumner receives NFCA's 2008 Diamond Catcher of the Year award - September 22, 2008, National Fastpitch Coaches Association - 'The NFCA and Diamond Sports, the NFCA’s “Official Protective Equipment,” have released the 10 catchers who have been named the winners of the 2008 Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year award. … Kathryn Sumner, Ohlone College[:] Sumner accumulated 51 runs scored in 50 games for Ohlone College during the 2008 season.'
